Why even think about an untested, unknown something offered at that price when you have two perfectly working alternatives (Delta 3200 and T-Max 3200) for cheaper?

They have a fun podcast. Its a way of showing support.

The answer is that it's Russian (Tasma, hello), and we can help Ukraine by shooting some:

"We’ve been selling Santa black & white film for a while now as our in-house film, but it’s always had a secret. Until recently it was a secret we were proud of, but recent events have changed our perspective. This film stock was not available worldwide and we found a way to make it for you all. We bought bulk film and spooled it by hand, making over 10,000 rolls over the course of the Santa production run. All of that is coming to an end, though.
The truth is that Santa film is made from a Russian air surveillance film. This film is still produced, available, and profitable for us as a business, but we won’t be making any more until there is regime change in Russia. The war in Ukraine must end. Right now, we have over 5,000 rolls of this special film stock ready (in both 35mm and 120). As this situation progressed, we thought about what we could do with it and how we could help. It’s a difficult situation to be in.
Being from Finland, we understand what it looks like to have hundreds of thousands of men with thousands of tanks rush at you from the East. We also know how long the recovery process for the people of Ukraine will be because our families still have scars 80 years after our war.

We’ve decided to sell the film and donate the entire cost to Ukrainian families in need. If it’s all sold, we’ll end up putting around 35,000€ towards humanitarian aid. We’ll post updates on amounts donated and which specific charities we donate to on the Santa film Instagram page (@Santa1000) so check that out if you’re interested. Otherwise, we ask the film community to come together to bid this film farewell and to support our friends and allies in Ukraine as they struggle against tyranny."

If it’s Tasma, does it have the extended red sensitivity?

It may not be available until after Dec 24, 11:59PM, and I heard something about it being shipped by air? Also, it looks like some of us, (we know who we are, I mean, who they are) will only be getting Foma 200 in our stockings.

These sound like noble sentiments but can you tell us why it has taken so long to be honest about this film and its origins
I note that you said you are Finnish but are now based in Budapest. You also seem to be able to speak for the company who has bought this Russian Surveillance film so can I ask what's your position in this company? Are you the owner who can donate all the proceeds of sales to the Ukranian people and if so can you say what steps you have taken to do this?

I note you joined us on the 22 February which was 2 days before the current Russian invasion, was there any link between your join date and the invasion? So forgive me but I know nothing about you and your company to gauge your sincerity

I note you made no mention of your connection to Santa 1000 in any of your previous posts, can you say why?

I have never bought anything Russian and from now on and as far as I am able I will not be knowingly buying anything that may benefit Vladimir Putin which means anything Russian

Fortepun isn't the source of the information, he was was just quoting from the source of the film, not making the statements themselves.
Plus a small comment at the beginning.

Dear Pentaxuser,

As Matt explained, I have nothing to do with these companies and simply quoted Kamerastore Finnland's press release, in which they reveal that it's Russian surveillance film. Which, I presume means Tasma.

Thanks for your answer. I confess when the section that had quotation marks around it, I failed to notice this when it followed on from your first sentence that I now quote above. I had seen no reference in your post to Kamerastore Finnland. I accept that you have no connection with the sellers which are Kamerastore Finnland

Assuming that your opening sentence is your own and not part of the Kamerastore Finnland's announcement then I presume that all you, I and the rest of us can assume is that this is a genuine offer on the part of Kamerastore Finnland

My problem and I admit, it seems to be not everyone's problem is that I believe we lack openness these days in our dealings with those who offer us "new " films with strange names and no means of finding out about them other than what they or their agents who sell the stuff tell us

So we always seem to have to be untangling a web to get to the real information. It may be that Kamerastore Finnland was simply offered this film and information about it is not their business.

I admit I am cynical about a world that appears to value and indeed benefit from any form of deception and that this sadly includes our own industry of photography. Very recent events in the world have only served to confirm my feelings

Anyway thanks again for taking the trouble to reply

At 35 Euro for a four-pack, this is pretty reasonably priced, too (at least until international shipping gets into the act). Sadly, I've spent my photography budget for this pay cycle; hopefully I can remember to check if there's any left after mid-month.
