Santa 1000....any ideas?

Does anyone know what this "Santa 1000" film actually is? Analogue Wonderland in the UK are offering it for £10 a roll but both they and the accompanying website for the film are very cagy about what it actually is. I'm surmising it is another repurposed film, which I have nothing against but I'm curious as to what it is. Not really interested in buying at that price £10 a roll 135 or 120) when I have a ton of HP5+ which I can shoot at virtually any speed...but still curious.

It could be any film really. Obviously pushed by at least a stop and a half, to achieve the “1000” speed.

As this film is coming from my town (!!!) I should know it. But I don't. I've never dared to ask the guys. I've heard rumors that it is some kind of surveillance film..

I think it looks a bit like Foma film. The examples I have seen have all quite lost shadows so I doubt it is really 1000 ASA film.

It’s not going to get much faster than it is now, if the film is to be stored on selfs for weeks and months.

You can buy yourself a few stops by searching on forming gas/hydrogen hypering (normally associated with long exposures, but also effective in increasing normal speed.
Easier is perhaps preflashing.
And last but not least latensification.

The above combined (and with care they actually can be combined, as they work in different ways) and added to a push, can potentially give three to four stops more speed with little impact on image quality.
But these techniques depend on prompt use (within days) and prompt development.

Ferrania are not making anything like a 1000ASA film, and would not choose to market via Analogue Wonderland....surely?

My feeling is that this is a repurposed film, the word "surveillance" is mentioned on the website which fits in with it's speed. I don't really like all the cagy stuff....why not just tell us what it is, especially if it really isn't available to consumers anywhere else.

Rebranding in general is a pest. But often using the original name is not impossible since the rights have been leased out or entirely sold off.
I suspect it’s something like that going on with “Rollei” film.

I agree...but with the Rollei films we're pretty sure what they are. I've nothing against the practice but the secrecy wrapped up in the fake story of Santa's elves doesn't do it for me. The Rollei films are also competitively priced, £10 for a roll of film isn't outrageous these days but it's more than Delta 3200 and way more than Delta 400 or T-MAX for example (from the same retailer as the Santa film)....for that sort of money I want some provenance.

I've honestly nothing against repurposing industrial/surveillance film but pretending it's something else doesn't sit well with me. So I was just wondering if anyone here was aware what this is.

Note the "worldwide"... meaning its has been available in some format somewhere. They also mention cutting it down by hand. My guess is that it's something like Tasma T-42L aerial film underexposed a few stops.

TASMA -> SANTA .. that sound pretty natural in Finnish for coming with new name. And camerarescue have ties to JCH too ..

Looking at the JCH review I guess Tasma T-42 is a candidate. Under expose one stop and slightly over develop? The developing times are quite long from what I saw.

Santa RAE 1000 D-76 1+1 1000 13.5

That is 12,5% more in time.

I'm still pretty sure that it isn't 1000 film at all, those shadows are so muted in all examples.

It's all like, legal these days.

For what it's worth, if it keeps the lights on for them and someone is buying it I say go for it. Sell whatever rebranded, expired, toasted junk. One mans trash is some hipsters grail.

it’s probably re-rolled tri-x with push/pull processing instructions. Whichever one it is. They always confuse me.

I showed the link to JCH to my friend who have shot+developed Santa and he said the acetate and outlook looks really similar.
