saffron yellow toner?

I found "saffron yellow" toner example on Dead Link Removed and I really like the result. How is it done?

I tried to google it, but without success.
Could it be this nickel toning they mention in their pricelist?

Saffron is a flower/condiment (Azafran in spanish)
Very expensive and gives up a very concentrate yellow color.... so It may be staining with it.

I think it must be the nickel - either that, or titanium as used in the Colorvir kits. These are variants of the classic Iron blue toner which is either a bleach & tone with potassium hexacyanoferrate bleach, or a simultaneous bleach and tone.

There is a good article on blue toning on http://unblinkingeye.com, and there are several really good books on toning. Tim Rudman's springs to mind...

to make 1% acetic acid, a 1 part 28% to 27 parts water
the following dyes are suitable for toning

#1 Red Safranine A 100ml
#2 Yellow Auramine 100ml
#3 Orange Mix equal parts #1 & #2, then add 100ml
#4 Blue-green Victoria Green 100ml
#5 Brilliant Green Mix equal parts #2 & #4, then add 100ml
#6 Blue Methylene Blue BB 100ml
#7 Violet Methyl Violet 30ml
Mixtures of the following may also be used
Victoria Green - Methyl Violet
Victoria Green - Methylene Blue
Methyl Violet - Auramine
Methyl Violet - Victoria Green
((I think you could make any mix ratio with any of these))


The dye toned prints should be washed in running water until all extraneous color is removed from the highlights. Prolonged washing should be avoided. ""

I think the T-17b cited by phfitz may be omitting an "a" part that includes ferricyanide. If that's the case, it can be a true toner rather than a staining dye bath, similar to the Berg Colortone kit. It wouldn't surprise me if saffron works as a true dye toner.

Most dyes requite the print to be toned first.

If you can get hold of a Colorvir kit, there's a great collection of toners, dyes and tints to play with. Garish results guaranteed, but not necessary
