erratum - DebyeHückel and Nernst equations

I found what I thought might be a typo, and had it verified by PE.

Figure 90, the calculation for pksp should be the sum of the three terms. A product (*) is shown before the (clpksp * cl) term.

The corrected formula is:

pksp = (brpksp * br) + (iopksp * io) + (clpksp * cl)

With that correction in place, I expect to see epitaxial crystals from everyone at the start of the next class

Good catch Ian. I checked the original and it is indeed a "+". Thanks. I have no idea how it got changed.

The actual math can be found in patents by Lin and Judd. Epitaxy can be found in patents by Maskasky.

I didn’t buy the first one, unfortunately. It’s out of stock at the Formulary for some time and I only came to know about it being available at Fotoimpex tonight — only to find out it’s out of stock there too.

If a new print run is out of the question for book 1, would there be a chance of the PDF file of the typescript becoming available for download? I think it's a book of sufficient importance that it should have continued availability, even if not in printed form.

I would pay for that.

I believe there are some print-on-demand services available. It would be another solution, although costly.

There will be no rerun of the book. A PDF is possible but is too big to upload to most sites. I have talked to Sean about this.

How many gigabytes are we talking about? Even if the images need to be compressed a bit, it should be possible to get it to a more reasonable size - in my experience it's pretty rare for press-ready PDF files (even 196pp photobooks running on 200+ line screens!) to exceed a couple of gigabytes - and even then, the middling to high hundreds of megabytes is more usual.

Worst case scenario, we use BitTorrent to share with enough people that there will always be seeders. I could leave a computer in my office seeding all the time.

Edit: I mean, if Ron is willing to “contribute” the book, offering bandwidth (by seeding) would be a small price to pay (although I would still like to send him some money or gift him a Photrio subscription).

Sean sees no way to attach it to "APUG" last time we exchanged notes. It is 3 files long at least. I am limited to 20 Meg per upload myself and 4 uploads. But let us not argue. I have not decided on the path forward and am limited due to health. Sorry.

In addition, a download for you guys must not be bad for those who own the book already.

PE, I too am interested in it. Your book/DVD was sold out before I was aware of it.

While I prefer hard copy, perhaps you could bundle the first book in electronic form (PDF) on CD (and the DVDs) as a Premium option with your next book. Of course, I'm sure this is more difficult to arrange with the publisher than I think.

While I had boxes of the books, and sold them over several years, and also advertised on APUG here and elsewhere, there was slow going, and even after I warned of the demise of the book, there was still slow going. Now, I hear all over from those who want it.

Well, the fact is that I had no sales for months and thus gave the last bunch of about 20 to Mark Osterman at GEM to sell for the benefit of the museum. I have also noted that on APUG. So, for those who want it, please contact him. I think he has a few left, but he said that they were selling to his students.

I hope you are all able to get a copy.

I would be very interested, but I honestly cannot justify such a price. Why hasn't the book been edited in digital format for a much lower price. It would have sold MUCH better.

I never said it's not. I'm absolutely convinced it is.

I said I cannot justify spending 200 $ for a photography book + DVD, either to my wife or to my wallet. And I think I'm not the only one. No photography book whatsoever is worth a divorce

If Ron had produced the same content in downloadable form (a DVD is a physical object) or as a course on Udemy or something similar, for something like 50$ or in small monthly payments, I would have bought it. In fact, I would still do that today. I'm sure that a lot of other analog photographers would have done/do the same.

It's not about what the book is worth. It's about what price will have people draw their wallets. Diamonds are worth even more, but I just can't afford them.
