RODINAL! You lucky Americans..

Guys,
Back to topic please: Rodinal.
But feel free to open a new thread in the Lounge about pension plans with investments in analogue film

Well that sucks

I actually saw an ad for very old unexposed lantern slides a few months ago. I almost bought it just for fun but wasn't sure the box was really unopened. So I passed.

It sounds essentially like glass plates... Simply placed into a lantern... You can make your own... Unexposed lantern slides that are old would be like shooting film that's old

Freestyle should ship to Canada - B&H also lists Rodinal (ADONAL).
Does this work for you?

B&H won't ship chemicals that are OMR (or is it RMO? Whatever dangerous list chemicals) so they WILL ship DD-X but no HC-110 or Rodinal...

How can I get YOUR product imported in Canada? I have heard that Rodinal has restrictions regarding transportation safety, so only stores can order it. Who is your rep in Canada?
Can't wait for your answer.

For people on the west coast, Beau Photo in Vancouver will be able to get it for sure via Freestyle.

Closer to your side of the country, it looks like argentix.ca (who is an APUG advertiser) carries it as well.

No because of importation restrictions, this product being considered as dangerous for transportation.

There actually are no import restrictions involved here.

What there are, are shipping restrictions. The consumer oriented ground shipping system that people can use to ship Rodinal and other similar items within the USA is not available for shipping to Canada.

The consumer oriented shipping procedures that are available for shipping to Canada aren't approved for items like Rodinal.

You could arrange special, commercial shipping, but the cost would only make sense for large quantities, and retailers like B&H probably wouldn't want the aggravation.

OK for the specifications you brought up. But, in the end, the results are just the same...

In an earlier post I suggested two places in Canada who would definitely have access to it: Beau Photo in Vancouver and argentix.ca in Quebec. The second is close to you and an APUG advertiser, I suggest you check them out.

Beau Photo mails all kinds of stuff to me that can't be shipped from the USA. HC-110 for example.

And that's a shame given the Canadian American relationship and geography. What happened? Last time I was in Vancouver I really felt like I was in a foreign country. More than any other time since I first went there at age five and that was in the 1950's. Nothing awful just different. Maybe 911 had something to do with it. Maybe it's always been hard to ship certain items, I don't know.

Photo-service, on Notre-Dame, had about 10 bottles of Blazinal (Rodinal in Canada) last time I was there (yesterday).

That's what I have, Blazinal. But I have been told this is not the original Rodinal recipe...

Right, Argentix has it and more. All this mainly imported from Freestyle, so a bit more costly. A final solution when everything else doesn't work. Sorry to say it.

If by original rodinal you mean the "last" iteration, the one from say 2008, then yes it is, absolutely.

If by original you mean the first iteration, from say 1914, then no it isn't.

Is there still some Rodinal similar of the original recipe on the market. Sorry, I might have missed the information along the whole thread. If so, is this the one offered by Adox?

I wouldn't drink Rodinal, but the developing agent in it, which I believe is p-aminophenol, can be made from acetaminophen, commonly sold in the US as Tylenol. Can't imagine it would be that toxic to brew yourself, probably no more toxic than common household chemicals. Jnanian makes his own developer from coffee, washing soda, and vitamin C, all common things that can be found in a home.

Lately, someone told me he gets its own Rodinal from someone who "brews" it for really cheap. I wish I knew the recipe just for the sake of knowing coz that must be really toxic...

Here's a recent eBay auction supposedly selling kits to mix your own:
