Does anybody know of any repair shops that work on 200 Hasselblad series cameras? I have a jamming issue in my 201F and it's possible that all I need is a CLA (or just an unjamming of whatever is jammed) but everyone place I've talked to won't even touch the camera. I've talked to Hasselblad in California and they said they can't help me so I'm at a bit of a loss for what to do at this point.

Based of a RFF thread, Barn Owl Camera services the early 1600/1000F Hasselblads. So presumably the 2000 series as well?

Big shout-out to Jim at Barn Owl. He once told me he could even repair a Rollei SL66!

@Richard Man Oh no! I was actually waiting for you to join this thread hoping that you'll add a few more names to the list! I've been lusting for the 203FE for a long time, and keep seeking supporting evidence for getting one.

Ha ha, the last time my 203FE had a problem (6? years ago) due to MY OWN STUPIDITY and killed the shutter, Hasselblad US in NJ was still working on it and replaced the shutter.

When my 80mm/FE's DoF lever broke off, it took me a while but Bob from Precision Camera in Virginia fixed it. It has nothing to do with the electronic per se, but no other "big name" technicians would touch it.

At one point, I was hoping to save enough $$ to get a back up, but....

Still hoping someone will step up. My 203 doesn't advance the film, as discussed in this thread:

Just a beautiful paper weight for now.

Just following up here - I ended up sending my camera to René at Service Caméra Pro. It ended up needing a CLA to get working again and that fixed my issue! If you're looking to get your camera serviced definitely send them an email or give them a call before doing anything - it looks like the team is going part time starting at the end of this year.

Glad it worked out. Yes it seems the shop will be closed to the public starting 2024, with the team only working on select cameras (most medium format + Leica M and Nikon F).

Welcome to Photrio!
I checked again at Samys Camera, where I have my Hasselblad adjusted and repaired, and they have not gone back to repair or adjusting the 200 or 2000 series cameras due to lack of parts. I checked at several other places in Southern California and they along with Hasselblad in California no longer are available to work on those cameras. I have added some urls for unjamming Hasselblad cameras in hopes that they will be useful to you.

I have a 2000FCM, and although it is working fine, I’m always on the hunt for repair just in case.

I don’t know if you ever solved this since your post was 2 months ago, but there is a guy on FM that is selling his 203 kit, and he mentioned that he sent it to Steve’s Camera Repair in LA for a once over before listing for sale.

You would have to check with them yourself but this place has been in business forever, so maybe?

Besides complexity, it seems like the biggest reason for unwillingness to service is there are no replacement parts. Good luck and please update this if you have success.

I have used Steve’s Camera Repair in LA for repairs multiple times. One time I was sent there by Samy's Camera to have a repair done.

Steve's camera will not touch the 200 series. Not even to replace a DoF lever on an FE lens, which has nothing to do with electronics.

Well, to replace the DoF lever, you have to remove the rear mount, and aperture ring, which contains the data bus, which is connected to an electrical wiper trace with very fine electrical feelers. I have rarely been able to remove these without bending or damaging those feelers - usually I can re-bend them so the go back together and work, but a good service center would have replacement parts for these. Unfortunately, there are no replacement available anymore.

F lenses, on the other hand, are easy. Really easy.

I see. Thanks for clarification!

May I ask what the cost was and if there was any issue sending the camera to Canada? Feel free to PM me if you prefer.

It was about 500 CAD plus shipping and fees. It was relatively easy to ship to Canada via USPS and USPS offers tracking in Canada, although I don't think they offer required signature about receipt of the package. The only difference with shipping to within the US was filling out the duties form at the post office, which was relatively simple.

I can’t verify it myself, I have not used them for any repairs. However, someone I know through another forum, and an owner of 200 series Hasselblads, told me Steve’s told him to contact this place in Florida.

His contact at Steve’s told him for focal plane HB repairs they are great.

You have to do your own due diligence.

I just got off the phone with the owner, he no longer works on Hasselblads.

Thank you for updating this. I will delete them. Bummer though.

Right at this time I can’t think of anyone in the US or Canada that will work on the focal plane bodies. If you have any success please come back and let us know. Knock on wood….my 2000FCW is chugging right along.

"Barn Owl" supposedly still work on the 200/2000 series.

Thanks. I have him mentally bookmarked, but I have a concern and I mention it with hesitation because I have not done any business with him, and want to be fair.

When I first came across Barn Owl, it was via an eBay listing. The details said he was a camera repair man, and had thoroughly gone through the item and done a CLA.

Here is my concern. The photos showed dust everywhere (not just a few specs) and my reaction was ”if I can see major visible dust externally, how well was this cleaned?”

If you go to his site today-I have in the last 10 days-and follow his eBay link for items for sale, look at the photos. I saw the same issue that concerned me originally with that first item from a couple years ago.

If anyone has had him do repair or service on their photography gear, I would love to know what your experience was. David Odess was an incredible technician and if there was an affiliation with Barn Owl as has been mentioned by others, there has to be an answer.

Response from Hasselblad USA regarding servicing my 203FE:

Welcome to Hasselblad online technical support.

That is correct, we cannot offer a repair service on this model any longer due to inadequate parts and materials. You can reach out to this service center located overseas ulf.kuehn@hasselblad.com as they still work on older V system models. This dealer can be found through our website https://www.hasselblad.com/dealers/#under the drop down menu>Germany-
