Response from Hasselblad USA regarding servicing my 203FE:

Welcome to Hasselblad online technical support.

That is correct, we cannot offer a repair service on this model any longer due to inadequate parts and materials. You can reach out to this service center located overseas ulf.kuehn@hasselblad.com as they still work on older V system models. This dealer can be found through our website https://www.hasselblad.com/dealers/#under the drop down menu>Germany-

BERNARD

As a long time Hasselblad owner it is sad to see that the owners of the company, not the Hasselblad family any longer, are doing everything they can to abandon the camera owners in hopes that the camera owners will come to them as customers. The Hasselblad 907 100C had approximately four times the coverage of a Nikon Z7ii and only twice the resolution. So that is based on four 25megapixel arrays. They cannot even put in an equivalent of the Nikon sensor which would be 50megapixels * 4 = 200megapixels or the Leica 80megapixels * 4 = 320megapixels. A stunning under performance by Hasselblad!

Right, and even more so I would like to see a true full frame sensor, but not the current 43,8 x 32,9 mm medium format crop. Phase One can offer 53,4 x 40 mm sensors so I see no reason why it should be impossible for Hasselblad to built a CFV full frame back or at least with a sensor equalling Phase One. Yes I know it is a price question, but competing in the top market should also be a matter of prestige for Hasselblad, or at least it was back in the day.

There is very little practical reason for them to keep increasing the sensor area. Even with the current 102MP chip Fuji and Hasselblad are using, they're already deep into the diminishing returns category, because the curves of utility and cost diverge wildly.

The cost of a chip is a reflection of a wafer yield, and it grows geometrically with the chip area. Meanwhile, resolution grows at a slower rate, and the use cases for higher resolutions begin to shrink rapidly above 50MP, eventually leaving you with pixel peeping or aggressive cropping. So I am not surprised that Phase One left the professional photog market and their focus now is on archiving, aerial, space, and software. The cost/benefit ratio of their equipment is not acceptable for photographers, even professional photographers. I won't blame Hasselblad for not following them.

<snip>
Keep in mind, 645 was originally the "half frame" of medium format...

And if you use today's terminology, the 1st medium format backs were ... Full Frame!

Semantics!

Assuming we are all perpetually on the hunt for camera repair options, just in case, I’m adding a guy I found in another discussion (long since closed) about buying motorized Hasselblad bodies and repair if needed on Photrio. The repair guy’s name is Dave Easterwood. He is located in Michigan, and his url is davescamera.net.

In some ways, my post is what I dislike about the internet, because I am just repeating info I’ve seen somewhere else! But I am acknowledging this as such, and you will need to do your own due diligence.

I’m adding this on this discussion as an attempt to have some of this info in one place.

Thanks folks!
