I have a few 8x10 safelites, a Thomas safelite, and several Kodak round Kodak safelite filters with deteriorated filter material sandwiched between the two pieces of glass.
.
If the filter "gel" (?) could be replaced, it should be less expensive than replacing the whole filter. I have quite a few that need replacement, and I don't mind tinkering with them.

Does anyone know of a source for the yellow or red material like or similar to that commonly used between the two layers of glass?

I'd appreciate a private message...

Is the gelatin foil just pressed between two glass panes or cemented (laminated)?
The german filters I came across were cemented.

@Greg Davis has a great video on repairing your filters. All of the materials are available at B&H or Adorama, when they have them back in stock of course.

I used one of the Rosco 'primary red' colors to make "safe" lights for the filtration values on my enlarger. The inexpensive sheets work very well and were "safe" when I tested with Ilford MG paper.

The sheets are also available on ebay, although I'm not sure that all of the colors mentioned in the video posted by Christopher Coy are listed, at least just now.

I haven’t looked at the B&H or Adorama stock levels, but it looks like Filmtools.com has some stock of Rosco or Lee gels.

Based on the YouTube video Christopher Coy cited, I just ordered the following gels from PNTA in Seattle: Rosco G280, Rosco 3407, and Rosco 3406 85N6. They come with the tissue backing mentioned in the video which I believe works as a diffuser. The cost including postage and 10% sales tax was just under $40. The sheets are large enough that I should be able to re filter a couple of Kodak "beehive" safelights that use the 5-1/2 inch filters.

There are other stores carrying these gels, but the contact info for PNTA is on their website: https://www.pnta.com/store-location/

Doesn't hurt to try them. Plug the re filtered safe lite in and compare the new filter to an original Kodak filter. Maybe it'll take an extra layer of filtration to get a match. Then test it for fogging.

Which round safelight filter? Might have an extra. The Thomas in easy to redo the filter. Local art and building supply stores will have everything you need.

I use Rosco R19 gels for variable contrast paper. They have never given me an issue even when lith printing.
