I agree, you see a lot more shadow detail in the second one. Of course all this is in the eye of the beholder, I like the first one because it gives a darker and more dirtier look (which suits the location) but in some cases it might be interesting to have more detail in the shadows. Either way, I (and other people) can use this test as a starting point and now I know what effect it gives if one adjust the exposure. Might come in handy if the situation demands it.
