Print terminology for exhibition

OK, pigment ink is shorthand for "pigmented" or "pigment-based" ink. How does this inform the discussion about what to call an inkjet print?

the only people who know (or care) are gallery owners, Photographers, and collectors. Perhaps the best thing to call it is "Digital Print" (note caps) or make no reference at all and just call it what it is, a Photograph.

Right, for most of us, our target audience.

Process matters. No one who has toiled to master silver gelatin, platinum, carbon, gum, gravure,
or any other print process is going to just label their prints "photograph." And I can't think of a good
reason to treat digital prints any differently.

The gallery people and their (our) customers, the collectors, seem to value the terms that most people in this thread are laughing about, as in their eyes those "names" distinguishes a "fine art inkjet print" from "any inkjet print". So truth or not, it's for sure easier to have a specific term within a context for things that (by certain people) easily can be mixed up with something else...

Better, I think, to educate gallerists and customers than perpetuate some of the silly labels. I don't really care what others call their prints, but I will contest any inkjet I encounter that is labeled a "carbon" or "pigment" print, since those terms historically refer to carbon transfers and so are just plain deceptive.

Hence why in my suggestion it includes the word "Giclée".. as in "Pigment Giclée on Cotton Rag", as an example, and silly labels, well, each to his own on that one...



EDIT:

-Customer: " It says inkjet, how can it be it cost 400 euros, I can buy 10 inkjet printers for that price!!"

- Gallery: "Oh, no it's not the same thing, these inkjet prints are made on a high-end extra quality top notch inkjet printer using a special photographic long duration ink, it's far from those printers you see at the mall"

-Customer: "Really... oh well, let's see what you have in the other room instead"


Hence, "Digigraphie" or "Giclée" ...
