PCX#61 cards received as of Feb 17, 2024:

Feb 16 - Thorsten - Sudden Light - Great photograph printed to a nice size card (~7"x10") with a great back story! I really like the shadows and the detail.
Feb 9 - Don Heisz - Rust - Great subject matter! This subject always captures my attention when I am out shooting. Loads of detail and contrast. Almost an abstract. Great photograph!

I have received 2 cards the last few days:

Jim Christie's "Yin and Yang" ...a fun street shot, capturing a moment of calm after a moment of disorder.

Thorsten's "Sudden Light"...a beautiful natural scene, with exquisite light. Beautifully printed, with a presentation that successfully survived the rigors of the mail.

Don_ih s excellent idea of purchasing a camera, test it and use the result for PCX seems to work well here, too. I´m not late as hell this time, my cards will be in the post tomorrow.

By today I received
@Thorsten - Sudden Light - great scene of a magic moment. i like the moment of light rays touching the fern at the ground of the cave. Light and shadow, that´s the game! I have a mounting press nearby and have to try that, too.. You made an incredible effort in postprocessing your print!

@Don_ih - Rust - I like rusty stuff of that sort! Full of details, I find myself trying to get closer to the details by enlarging it tablet-wise with thumb and finger. And as mentioned above, I like your concept that finally givess GAS a sense.

I also received Thorsten's "Sudden Light". Unlike AnselMortensen's copy, mine did not fair well through the post. Looks like someone tried to fold it in half lengthwise, and it has some nasty white lines. But that doesn't diminish the image. It is a beautiful shot of a nature area, done very well, with both good highlight and shadow detail. A good scene, executed well. We have an area similar to this in Ohio, and unfortunately, our weather is similar also. We can go days without sun! Thanks Thorsten!

Oh my, glad you liked it, but sad to hear that they folded it.

Well, I've owned the camera for years but just recently decided to fix it. It's almost a bit of punishment trying to print the negatives, though, since the capping shutter amounts to over one stop difference from one side to the other. I'm glad you like the result.

That becomes so habitual, it's almost like a reflex....

My postcards will go in mail tomorrow, or at the latest Saturday.

Two notes:
(1) I am sending bedrof and sworlok letters to Russia, and postcards to the alternate addresses that they provided.
(2) There is a mistake on the title label of my postcard. It states that the cards were printed on MGIV RC and MGRC paper. The entire edition is printed on MGRC paper.

I hope you like the image I selected for this round.

Regards,
Darwin

I have received 3 postcards and one print to-date. "Waypoint" from BHuij is an example that "high key" photos can be interesting. It looks like this little tree is struggling in these cold surroundings. "Rust" by Don_ih has a story to tell. Where has this trailer experienced? It is bold of you to try fixing cameras - I wish you the best. "No Swimming" from AnselMortensen also has a story to tell. Where this sheds for storage, or some other reason? Why the prohibition on swimming? The print, or very large postcard, "Sudden Light" from Thorsten is stunning. I first thought it was a photograph of a mountain with dark sky, but later released that it was looking out from a cave. I like the story of how this image was made. Very well done.

Regards,
Darwin

It is bold of you to try fixing cameras

The camera I use most is a Leica III. I was using it and the shutter started messing up. I immediately feared I'd have to send it away to get it fixed. However, it was just a piece of film in the shutter (the bit of film had torn off the previous roll and vanished in there). Anyway, to put myself at ease, I've decided to more fully learn how to fix them.

I received my first card, from @Todd Barlow - it's an excellent print entitled Landscape Truck Detail. Looks like there isn't much more left to the truck. Excellent contrast in the print - makes it look like you could reach in and flake the rust off with your finger.

PCX#61 cards received as of Feb 24, 2024:

Feb 21 - BHuij - Waypoint - Great exposure and printing, the snow looks like snow! Also like the composition with the 3 bands of texture in foreground, mid and background, nicely done.

Cards/prints are in the mail ...

I received Todd Barlow's Landscape Truck Detail. That is some serious rust! The company's been in business for 87 years? Looks like that could be the original truck! Very nicely exposed and printed. Looks like you cut your 8x10 paper down to 4x6; I might have cut mine down to 4x5, thereby getting 4 cards per sheet. I'm a cheapskate! Thanks Tood!

@MattKing will chime in a little later to tell you that the 4x2 square left over from cutting 3 4x6s out of a sheet of 8x10 can be used as a test strip. 🙂

Yes, except its a 4"x2" strip 😄

I received drpsilver's dramatic, moody cloud study postcard today. Nicely seen & printed, very foreboding!

I've just put my postcards for this round into postbox.... again I decided to make it fully analog so it took me about 2 hours to write all information to the postcards back sides by hand.... Sorry for all my mistakes in advance.

Received "No Swimming" from @AnselMortensen - nicely printed (although I am confused as to where you'd swim). The postal service did a number on the card, with a weird ink smudge across the top of the image and bit of the emulsion chewed off in the middle. The ink smudge is over "PCX 61" on the other side, also (but it's still marginally visible). All part of the adventure, though. Thanks!

In the meantime I received
Todd Barlow - Landscape Truck Detail - a rusty piece of abandoned history, nicely exposed and split grade printed.
AnselMortensen - No Swimming - maybe the changing huts of a long forgotten place for a summer bath. Looks a bit like a model railway diorama.

Today I received drpsilver's "Cloud Drama". A very nice shot of some random clouds, but arranged neatly, in the sky. A very dark sky. The card doesn't say, did you use a filter for this shot? I would guess a red filter based on how dark the sky is versus the nice (but not blown out) clouds.

Thanks Darwin!
