Yesterday, I received "Winter" from @MattiS - but didn't get a chance to look at it until just now. I got home just as a genuine winter storm was starting to find my power out. It was out for 12 hours (all night long). I'm currently sitting in winter - the house is quite close to freezing (the power has been back on for 30 minutes).
The card is quite nice - no one would suspect it was a Minox A photo. You're going to be taking quite a swing in the other direction for the next round - how many Minox shots could fit on one sheet of 4x5 film?

@Don_ih yikes! Stay safe!

I just received @drpsilver 's "Cloud drama". Love the dark sky and contrast, but there's something really unsettling about it. I feel like turning it around and upside down, but that doesn't fit either. Drama indeed! Thank you!

PCX#61 cards received as of March 1, 2024:

Feb 28 - MattiS - Winter - Looks like a hiking trailhead, nice representation of what a typical winter day is like.
Feb 26 - Ansel Mortensen - No Swimming - Post office scraped some of the emulsion off but still able to make out the long shadows and ask where is the pool / swimming hole?
Feb 26 - Jim Christie - Yin and Yang - Post Office mangled bottom but still able to see a great capture, it's like a treasure hunt full of details and questions.
Feb 21 - BHuij - Waypoint - Great exposure and printing, the snow looks like snow! Also like the composition with the 3 bands of texture in foreground, mid and background, nicely done.
Feb 16 - Thorsten - Sudden Light - Great photograph printed to a nice size card (~7"x10") with a great back story! I really like the shadows and the detail.
Feb 9 - Don Heisz - Rust - Great subject matter! This subject always captures my attention when I am out shooting. Loads of detail and contrast. Almost an abstract. Great photograph!

Received Cloud Drama from @drpsilver - and Daniela is right, it's a bit disorienting. I find, however, that if you hold it one way, it seems you're looking up at the sky with clouds but, if you rotate it 180 degrees, it looks like you're looking down at clouds above an ocean. The postal service decided which way was up, though, with their bars and squiggly lines.

I also received AnselMortensen's "No Swimming". An old sign near an old and presumably abandoned structure. Nice balance with the sign and the structure, and nicely printed. Only minor scraping from the postal service. Thanks Doug!.

And today I received MattiS's "Winter". Yes, a nice shot, and I also am amazed that it's a Minox shot. Thank the good folks who provide film for that. Thanks, Martin, that was definitely worth sharing.

Well I just printed c. 40 postcards. 1945 Speed Ez-EL is dull white before they started painting yellow, no fog color. Weird reflection on a border. Looks like next time I will be painting the easel

Just received @mfohl 's "Patriotic pickup". Nice texture on a very cool truck. I wonder how long it's been sitting there! Looks like you were there at the right time, with all the sunlight hitting the truck and isolating it from the foliage behind. I hope you get to go back at night when the lights are on...although that would make for a very different picture (I'm thinking of horror movies with creepy trucks😆 )

Finally @drpsilver 's "Cloud drama" reached my mailbox and I can see what drama you were talking about... The postcard also experienced drama during transit by mail.... part of the image is smeared with the remnants of a post stamp from another postcard. However I like it as is because I can remember how postcards were tortured in the past.
I really like how the image is processed - strong contrast but the clouds are full of fine details. Thank you!

Received "Reflection" from @Ajven today - it's an excellent matt print at 5x7 that suffered absolutely no damage on the way here (a miracle). I really like the photo. The clarity of the reflection is almost disorienting, since it makes me want to turn the card around. And, when you do turn the card around, it looks oddly like a double-exposure. Very very nice. Thanks!

@Don_ih Thank you for the report. This is the first report for my PCX61 batch so I hope another postcards are on their way to recipients as well.

Yesterday I received:
@Howard Earl 's "Sunny Florida" - I had to google how Chamonix 4x5 camera looks like and this is quite opposite Minox camera. This round of PCX expands my knowledge about camera types. I like the shadows under the chairs and the calm atmosphere. NIce picture.
@mfohl 's "Harding Memorial" - excellent shot -If I were in that place, I would like to buy a postcard like this in a tourist shop and send it to friends. Great light, excellent framing with black tree branch. I like it very much.
Thank you both for the postcards.

I have received 4 postcards so far:

@Todd Barlow: "Landscape Truck Detail" The whole frame is packed with textures to feast my eyes on. Very cool photo, and carefully balanced tones. I have a close friend who shoots a Pentax MX, and every time I see it I think about buying one even though I already have like 9 35mm SLRs.

@drpsilver: "Cloud Drama" A wonderful abstract with very bold darkening of the sky to make the clouds really pop!

@mfohl: "Harding Memorial" I spent a long time staring at the creamy light tones of the marble. You captured that really, really well, in a nicely balanced composition.

@MattiS: "Winter" I'm always a sucker for landscapes with snow-covered trees. Very impressive what you can do with such a tiny negative.

Hello everyone!
I´ve recently come back to this community after a long absence and this is my first time participating in the postcard exchange. So please, allow me to be a little poetic about it, just for a second.
This has been such a rewarding experience! On so many levels. I send out a big thank you to @koraks and @Daniela who suggested I should try this.
The first thing that comes to mind about this experience is an Arcade Fire song called "We used to Wait". We never put pen to paper anymore, our lives and feelings now go through keyboards and fiber, I've been feeling like a kid on Christmas Eve, waiting for the mailman to pass by my box. I'd forgotten how much fun this is!

26th feb. - @Todd Barlow - Received your Landscape Truck Detail and I like this kind of photographs so much! I often find myself shooting this kind of details
27th feb. - @MattiS - Received your "Winter"! Beautiful image! I would think that this was the norm for you in Winter, rather than a rare occasion. Here in Portugal, we might find this kind of scenario in Serra da Estrela (the highest point in Portugal), on particularly cold winters, but very rare.
28th feb. - @drpsilver - Received your Cloud Drama - I also love to get dramatic skies on my photographs, but I don't think I've ever been blessed with one.
5th mar. - @mfohl - Received your Patriotic Pickup - Such a great picture. It looks like an old friend that the owner could not part with.

All the postcards arrived in perfect conditions, some of them with handwritten messages which I loved and thank you, for taking the time to do so. I have them all on display in a cupboard where I keep some of my most prized possessions, such as drawings my daughter gave me through the years.

I have been hard at work these last few days, going through my negatives and looking at everything with such a different perspective comparing to how I looked at them back when I shot them. So many of them never saw the "light of day" so to speak. I do believe the company I kept at the time was a bit toxic. Too much peer pressure to only show your best, and your best never seemed to be good enough. I find now that I discarded most of my pictures because I was looking at them through everybody else's eyes and with everybody else's opinion in mind and not my own, not even thinking of the reason why I took those images in the first place.
I am looking at them with my own eyes right now. I am up to 70 images that I find I would like to share and never did. I still have a few rolls to go.
I will probably be posting a lot of them in a few weeks.
I am doing my best to mail my postcards before the end of the month.

Thank you all once again.

Monica

It's been a long hard February-March for me. Many home repair projects have kept me out of the darkroom. I now plan to print and mail to all by mid April. Sorry for the delay, life intervenes...

@mcarmo you're not in my mailing list for this round initially, but in case you want to get a card from Russia, do PM me your address.

if this is not against the rules, of course.

PCX#61 cards received as of March 9, 2024:
Mar 5 - Howard Earl - Sunny Florida - Nicely seen! I like both the symmetrical and asymmetrical elements.
Mar 4 - drpsilver - Cloud Drama - Nicely done! Reminiscent of Equivalents by Alfred Stieglitz.

And I received mshchem's "Mr. Zeus @ Sunset". What a nice stately portrait of a kitty cat! Sitting on his chair or pillow, he appears to be contemplating his fine life style. Very nice! Thanks Mike!

Received @mshchem 's Mr. Zeus @ Sunset - I have to agree, it's a stately portrait. Does the cat see a bird outside? The fog on the edge doesn't matter. It's a good print and survived the trip well.

Sunny Florida from @Howard Earl also arrived and it too survived the trip well except the machine printed the wavy cancellation across the print side of the card - - the stamp is untouched.
I like the scene - I'd find it compelling enough to photograph, too - although it looks just a bit like a prison yard....

The circular stamp with the orange flower is popular. I think it's been on most cards I've received from the States for the past year.

Today I received @mshchem 's "Mr. Zeus @ Sunset" - It is cute portrait of a kitty cat. I can only guess what interesting thing the cat can see.... Thank you for the postcard!
