Came back home to two new postcards:

@MattiS ' "Mancave". Great portrait and backstory! I hope you have all been able to find a new spot to play

@jvo 's "Morning conversation, cup o' joe". I love that not only you took a photo, but you also took the sitters' place to see things from their point of view. I can see how this could turn into a series!

Thank you both!

Now that this round is wrapping up, should we post our photos on the gallery page, indicating that they are part of the postcard exchange. This would let other members see what we're up to, and maybe draw some interest to the next exchange??? It only makes sense if a number of us decide to do it.

That's an excellent idea Rob! Maybe a dedicated page, like a new gallery page with PCX 59 in the header?

Hand of Spring - BHuij - Great story to go with this fine photo. It's funny the things that can lift a person's spirit and make a difference.
Two Men - bedrof - Great shot of what was likely a great conversation. Glad you finally had a chance to print it up.
Mancave - Mattis - Nice portrait of this man in his environment, great expression. Sorry to hear the cave is gone.
Edge of White - Dunga - What a great moment. You have to love the snow dust when it's blowing in the air and backlit. Like diamonds in the sky. You also have to live in snow country to appreciate it. The card arrived today.

should we post our photos on the gallery page,

I posted an example. I just happened to have scans of my copy negatives. Most of these exchanges, I don't have scans of what I ended up sending - like my Niagara Falls postcard from a few rounds ago.

For some reason, that sounds sad....

Well, they were addressed to both my wife and myself.
They served to help check how well the cards were withstanding the efforts of (some of) the postal service.
I used to photocopy the backs of all the cards I received, and put the cards with their associated photocopies in the sort of photo albums that held the photos behind a clear sheet with a sort of vacuum effect. The first page of the album was always the card I sent.
I always liked the postmarks and other signs showing that the cards had travelled through the mail. Somehow, having one pristine card at the front didn't fit well.

If the purpose is to encourage non-postcarders to see the photos and maybe join in next time, I think we're better off in the standard gallery as more people look there. If we have our own gallery, those that are not involved might not bother to look into the album. Also I don't think postcarders is a word.

Understood.
Of course, no matter which gallery you choose, your uploads will still appear amongst the New Media entries.
And of course, if more people use the print exchange gallery, it is far easier to direct interested people to a collection of uploaded postcards.

I received two cards. MattiS' Pit, an excellent informal portrait of an interesting character. Also, the print has excellent tonality, from the dark shirt and hat to the bright white light. Good detail in the darks. And BHuij's "Hand of Spring". A delicate shot of what I think is a flowering plum blossom. Good capture of the one blossom with the rest of the print dropping off in sharpness. I tried for several years to get good shots of these, but never got a good one like this. Also, I don't remember them coming out as early as February.

Thanks Martin and Andrew!

I also send a card to myself... for all the same reasons as Matt... additionally I've keep all the cards I've received in each exchange and often look back at them to enjoy again. I often pull them out to show to others.

For me PCX 59 will be remembered as the Exchange that keeps on giving... I rec'd "mancave, Pit" from MattiS, made on the occasion of building sale and hobbyists closing down their various mancaves - his philosophical smile in the face of adversity! thanks martin.

Received Edge of White from @Dunga - and I can sympathize with the story you included. For PCX58 (and the Blind Print Exchange that was happening at the same time), I took a 4x5 and tripod out into the snow -- one photo, I trudged through snow that was over 3 feet deep and had trouble getting the tripod to touch the ground. Gotta love the cold and snow and aluminum camera and tripod parts...
I really like the print - those trees look enormous. Thanks!

I got 4 more since my last update.
@BHuij 's Hand of Spring is another delicate flower picture, and as such has been snatched as well and put in display alongside drpsilvers'. I live it very much an the focus is very tastefully used. Btw I went out the other day and attempted to shoot a 5x7 flower too so to make a triptych. It has been fiddly, let's see...
@MattiS Mancave is the next one in - sorry to hear you had to give that up, but the portrait is nice indeed.
@John Patrick Garriga is another one - sorry John I don't get your handwriting (mine is worse just so you know - but it is a digital B&W landscape - I particularly like the clouds in the distance
Last in is @MToma "things are looking up". I really never thought we were anywhere close to heaven for what it matters.

I like the idea of posting in the gallery, will have a go in the next few days for the ones I have. I am always curious for the ones I don't receive.

PCX#59 gems received as of Aug 24: A banner day, three arrivals in todays mail!

Aug 24 - Dunga - Edge of White - This is a beautiful photograph. I have tried something similar with limited success. I can almost feel how cold that hands are using the small dials on the C220!
Aug 24 - BHuij - Hand of Spring - Great capture and very relatable backstory, I especially like the out of focus shadow area that flows through the background that makes the blooms pop.
Aug 24 - Mattis - Mancave - Beautiful shot of a chaps happy place! I like this photo very much.
Aug 4 - Minox - Summer Shed - Beautiful capture of the soft light within the shade of the shed. I really like the detail and all the tones.
Aug 2 - mshchem - Giant Weed Wacker - Verging on an abstract with so many "Easter Eggs"! I love the detail of the Quonset hut, the overhead filler, the transformer pole and the siding.
July 26 - jvo - morning conversation, cup o'joe - Nicely seen! The longer I look the more questions and mysteries it generates, I like it!
July 25 - negativefunk - 59.oficina - Well seen and executed! I really enjoy subjects and images like this!
July 24 - drpsilver - Tidy Tips, Edgewood - Nice capture both artistically and technically! I like non-traditional use of the negative space and depth of field selection. Curious about the use of the two developers - tell me more!
July 17 - Tom Taylor - Henry Coe State Park - Beautiful capture of the emotion of the bright and oppressive heat of a backpacking trip when you have to make the miles! Love the darkroom details as well. Nicely done!
July 12 - Jim Christie - The Stiarway - Excellent composition and capture. When masked off into sections they all tell a story. I like the eyes the most.
July 12 - Daniela - Jeu de Paume - Nicely seen! I like the tones, detail and the back story. I also like the shadows cast between the columns.
July 7 - Krefey - Ascent to Monte Elmo, view of the main Alpine Range - Massive subject delivering contrast, texture, space and depth, a beautiful photograph!
July 7 - Rrrgcy - Oh Carrie! - Cool creative treatment, image on image. Conveys light, heat and humidity and the sun via the hand coloured mangos. Nicely thought out and executed!
July 5 - henryjjames - South Spanish Coast at La Cala del Moral - Beautiful scene nicely executed composition and tones, and the timing of the waves and the contrail in the sky, well done!
July 5 - mfohl - Abandoned Building - Golden hour makes all the difference, assuming early morning or late afternoon sun that casted the shadows on the door. Well seen, timed and executed!
July 4 - Michael Howard - OldStones - Beautiful composition and printing, I especially like the hidden figure!
July 4 - koraks / Raphael - Red Wall - I love this subject and while I default to B&W I think this really works well in colour, nicely done!
June 30 - Rob Skeoch - Isaak Siemen - Great idea for a series and well executed, I love the sharpness and detail!
June 27 - tel - Lobby - This is my first PCX and I am finding inspiration in many of the images, this is one. Night street photography, symmetrical yet asymmetrical with a hint of a decisive moment. Nice!
June 27 - AnselMortensen - Abstract - Absolutely wonderful. Composition, texture, contrast, it speaks to me!
June 14 - Pitotstock - A Simple Still Life - Inspiring as well modern materials with vintage look, well done!
June 7 - Don Heisz - The Tree - Inspiring me to not be so hasty to get rid of fogged paper, great result!

Here are four out of the six images I sent: https://tinker.koraks.nl/photography/ciao-from-sicily-some-postcards/
Looks like I gave away the last copies of the remaining two cards; "Graffiti" and "Nowhere road".

Beautiful stuff, koraks. I really like "Two doors. Via Francesco Matera, Palermo, Sicily. May 21, around noon". The warm tones and the delicate and naive-looking graffiti remind me of cave art and almost make me want to climb into one of those doors...almost!
