Postcard Exchange Round 57 Comments and Feedback

I received @hkbenji 's "Ginkgo Dreams, Tokio" yesterday.

Same here! A very nice print on a beautiful paper. I think the paper really works very well for this particular image.
It's one of the several pleasures of an exchange like this - in this case it reminds me I really should look into washi and gampi papers some more!

Three arrived this week.
Cold Dream - Dunge - You can really feel the stillness in the photo.
Ballaum Sluse - Mattis - I'm glad you mentioned those crosses were windmills. Very nice photo.
Just because we can - Mtoma - Interesting detail shot of something we see almost every day, but rarely notice.

Sign up thread for round 58 is now up and waiting for you to join in.

I got a few more to enjoy during the holidays!
@jvo 's stairway to heaven is one - i always love a b&w clouded sky framed by the architecture of the place, made somewhat more puzzling by the use of deep blacks.
One can feel the cold in @Dunga 's print (and such cold as I never experienced!). I think the square format adds to it.
@MattiS very nice (and big!) "Ballum Sluse, Syddanmark" arrived safely too - I should visit some similar landscapes this summer and I am very much looking forward to it.
Last one to arrive was @hkbenji 's. That's a paper i never seen before and I like how it works with this picture!

The "card" from hkbenji is magical! It is a very nice photo, but when placed on a sunlit white background it glows. The Washi paper works perfectly for this photo. Whatever printer you used handles this thin paper very well. Thank you for stunning photo. The information about ginkgo trees is interesting.
"Ballum Sluse, Syddanmark" from MattiS prompted me to ask "What part of a ship is this artifact from?" You controlled the depth-of-focus well, and the two windmills in the background add interest to the image.
"London St Pancras" from peter_ is an example of how important color can be to the impact of an image. Thank you for a "look into" life at St Pancras Station.
"Container, Espoo, Finland,2022" by Jord186 looks like an early Picasso. The patterns of the peeling paint give this photo a very abstract look. I like the slight brown/red tone. It softens the brightness of white paint.
"Stairway to Heaven" by jvo reminds me of a Jerry Uelsmann print. Good use of geometry to add interest to the photo.

Thank you to all for sharing you work.

Regards,
Darwin

I received hkbenji's "Ginkgo Dreams, Tokyo". What a nice print! Very interesting paper! I'm kinda surprised it went through the printer, and it never would have made it through the postal system! It makes me want to try washi film. Thanks Ben!

@hkbenji , received your beautiful print. We have Gingko trees here in Iowa! Planted on our University campus and along the city streets . Your print is wonderful! Thank you.

I received cramej's "Self Portrait". A nice shot of the fire hydrant with the photographer lurking in the corner. Nice concept, nice shot. Thanks John!

I received @Dunga 's "Cold dream" last week. A beautiful upward shot of bare winter trees. The square format fits the mood of the picture perfectly; and I loved reading the backstory. Thank you!

Glad to hear that my prints start to reach some of you

@bedrof Sadly the envelope i sent to the Moscow address came back. I guess things changed again with the postal relations...
I'll mail #57 together with #58 to Uzbekistan. We play it safe next time.

Received the highly anticipated washi-print Ginkgo Dreams postcard from @hkbenji -- it is every bit as nice as people are saying. I'll have to wait for the sun to return to see it as you recommend. That may not happen until April....

So long as I haven't misplaced any in the mail, I have received:

@mfohl
@mshchem
@drpsilver
@mikeg
@MattiS
@peter_
@hkbenji

I certainly enjoy seeing the vacations, stories, mysteries and beauty of other places in the world!

My domestic cards have already gone out and the international cards will go out tomorrow.

I received also (a few days ago in fairness) @bedrof 's "first snow". A bigger postcard and a nice print on FB print. I like the composition and as a result I spent some time on google maps exploring the region (breathtaking!). I didn't realise it was a coating of snow at first!

Sorry to hear my card hasn't made it to @cramej yet - if it doesn't get there, I should have a spare to send alongside the upcoming batch for the new round.

I'm very glad to hear that, thank you! You're the second person receiving my card in this round.
In case you want to look at the exact place (with an accuracy of like 50 m) the position is 51.187002 N 86.088294 E.

Thank you - both for the card and the coordinates!

this was a good idea.... I sent you a card and see it hasn't been rec'd... it was sent 1st class in an envelope so a bit disappointing by the "quality control" of USPS.

I will try again - it's be about 2 weeks, but please contact me if it doesn't arrive a bit after that.

I'll look for yours and @negativefunk today. There was a time when we had some mail get accumulated and maybe I haven't seen it yet.

3 more cards rec'd... from....

cramej, "self-portrait", stubby, worn needs paint - just like me! oh yeh, and some other guy wonderful shot.
hkbenji, "ginkgo dreams,", what a pleasant shot, the beautiful light, great lines, people enjoying themselves on a stroll, and history - it doesn't get better than that!
mattis, "ballum sluse", texture, texture, texture and excellently printed on the just the right paper to show detail throughout... a print you linger and wander in.

thanks all....

p.s. i really like cramej's idea of identifying if a card was received. I have extra and will send one to him. Is there any way to do this across the exchange?

I did receive yours, thanks! I'm a big fan of geometric compositions.

@negativefunk Unfortunately, I did not find your card today.

I just received dunga's "Cold Dream". Both very dreamy and very cold. I didn't think it got that cold in Europe. Not unusual for Ohio, we just had -8F two days before Christmas. I love the square format, and I love my C220! Thanks Claudiu!

Help... My card to bedrof was returned today... I did send it to his Russian address - mail service suspended.

I haven't found the Uzbek address, can anyone tell what it is, or where I'd find it?

I see Don has already replied. It was near the bottom of the message.

Hey @cramej, good to know, thanks. I'll fire over another one then, possibly in Feb unless i stumble to the post office earlier!
