Yes, small group this time. But will be fun. I already settled on a negative and if my plans come true will print the cards on Tuesday - hoping to be not again that late this round.

Cheers

I have maybe 8 out of 10 made - they're all going to be different. Nothing fancy - just enlarged on Ilford MGIV postcard paper. I should get back to it this weekend. It's good fun.

I have yet to select an image for this round. The "activation energy" to work in the darkroom has become very large lately. I am not sure why, but it must be overcome soon. Hopefully I will get some time to work in the dark tomorrow evening. I would like to have my cards in the mail by month-end.

Regards,
Darwin

Today the first postcard of round 53 arrived. MattKings "Winter continues". Apart from the small wooden platform it´s pure nature waiting for recovery from the endless winter. Very nice details in the weeds
I also like the slight sepia toning, have to try that by myself.

This reminds me to start with my cards. I´d love to experiment with paper negatives and contact printed cards with my new to me 13x18 (app. 5"x7") Mentor. But unfortunately it has a light leak that I have to fix first.

I also received Matt King's Winter Continues. No snow, but a nice vertical landscape with some pretty scrubby vegetation. As Matti said, nice weeds. And nice clouds too.

Thanks MattiS and mfohl.
Today I received mfohl's "Levesque Tower". Unlike a lot of architectural photography, the choice of framing is more unsettling - in a good way.
You almost expect the buildings to move!
A nice contact print too!
And by the way mfohl, they aren't weeds, they are simply dormant.
This gives a better sense of how they look later in the year (from a couple of hundred yards/meters away):

The first card to reach me in this round is from @MattKing. It's the aforementioned "Winter Continues", a fitting subject for these strange times. It's a beautiful print with very tender highlight tones. Thank you for this gem! Incidentally I almost selected a not completely dissimilar picture of dormant vegetation for this postcard exchange.

The same day as receiving the first card I went into my darkroom to print at least half the cards, but unfortunately nothing went according to plan and I am back to square one. Fortunately there is still some time left

I have received two cards: @MattKing's nicely done Winter Continues with its subtle sepia toning (something I have never tried, although I've had a kit to mix some up for 5 years) and Leveque Tower by @mfohl - a sharp architectural contact print from a 4x5, featuring a building with regular geometry before a prime example of art deco architecture.
I still haven't finished my cards. I think I want to take a couple more photos to make them.

Thanks distributed and Don Heisz - glad you enjoyed the card.
Isn't it fascinating that cards take the same amount of time to get to Germany and Switzerland and Ohio, USA as they take to get to Ontario from across Canada?

A few months ago, I made 5 postcards and sent them across country. The last one to arrive - an hour's drive away.

I too have received cards from Matt and mfohl - both so different, yet so well done. Matt's card was the first to arrive (early last week - Tuesday I think) so it's on par with the others that received their's early as well.

I'm in the middle of renovating my apartment but my darkroom should be up and running again soon. Since this is a small round I may try something a little different this time - we'll see how things go!

Rachelle,
Thanks - I'm glad you like it.
I have a feeling that if that negative of mine was yours, a lith print would have resulted :D.

I got all of mine mailed today and apologize in advance if you find the card you receive is just odd  All the cards are different and I sent them randomly.

Yesterday I got another card in the mail. I knew it was by you, @mfohl, before even looking at the back side. The subject matter is similar to the first one, however this time the composition is a bit bolder. I like it very much, thank you. You seem to emphasize your highlights, which I like.

Got @mike c 's card today - very nice stepping of tones in the background - looks like a fictitious place. I'm starting to get envious of the sepia toning. (I have a kit but have never mixed it up.)

I also received @mike c's card today. Apparently Switzerland and Ontario are close together, postally speaking. The impression of depth with the staggered hills in the mist is remarkable. Thank you very much

It's a shame I don't have a (secondarily? :D) railroad themed card to reply this with this time. Maybe in the next round!
