Thanks for the kind comment - I was reminded that I wanted to comment on the "Canada" comment.
That negative was exposed last May - so they are Spring leaves.

I follow someone on Flickr from Canada who does mostly rural photography of old barns and things. Seems there is only a few months of the year where there isnt any snow in the picture. Its always interesting seeing the different seasons in the world. Here its either hot or not so hot.
I do like the toning, have some photospeed red toner, but so far it hasnt impressed me, seems to send everything pink instead of red. That was awhile ago, might try again as Im better at toning these days.

Canada is a big place - about 15% larger then Australia!
In our corner of Canada, our weather is normally quite temperate. I have neighbours with palm trees (the hardier versions) and we can and do bar-be-que all year round - just need a bit of cover sometimes from the rain. So far this late fall and winter we have had no snow, except toward the north, and up on the mountains that surround Vancouver to the north.

@jvo : your Alien has landed!

I needed some time to get the orientation right (it really matters in this composition) and then it jumped out a me!
The subtle low-key exposure gives it an eerie - x-ray-like vibe, almost like looking through night vision goggles. I would have never thought of creating the creature this way. Well done!

The most recent cards that have landed in my mailbox are ...
A card from mike c of his truck with a pair of "antlers". Good use of line-of-sight in composition.
The card from Rowreidr of a wall full of buoys. I was unclear as to the correct orientation of the photo until I notice people in the print. Nice use of depth-of-focus to control the viewers eye.
The card from jvo of an alien from another time and/or place. The low contrast print on fogged(?) paper only adds to the mystery of this creature.

Thanks to all for sharing images in the round. I look forward to Round 49!

actually i've been playing with low light, higher contrast work, as of late - "alien" worked better printed darker - as you say - mystery!

i rec'd 2 more cards from
bedrof/ilya, "old house..." - very nicely balance and depth with attractive tones - and another print on satin paper! ( a new trend?)
roweidr, "the buoy wall..." - excellent perspective and detail.

a total of 15 gems rec'd thus far!

1st observation - hmmm, everyone's handwriting is more decipherable than mine!
2nd observation - as i've looked back over everyone's comments on the postcards they've rec'd, i've had to go back to each card for reference. an enjoyable process, learning, and makes me wonder what i didn't see before!
3rd observation - i evolved to like the imprints "added" to the picture by the postal systems of the world - it adds to their distinction!

I agree, but here are some hints:
1) include a reference to which exchange it is related to;
2) include your Photrio user name;
3) include a title that makes it easy to refer to the card; and
4) include additional info if you want to include additional info - either on the card, or in a post in the thread.
All of which makes it easier for the recipients to both keep the cards organized and to make comments.
And some further hints:
When you enter a round, set aside a mid-sized envelope to hold the cards as they are received.
Mark the envelope with something that identifies the round - e.g. "Postcard Exchange #48".
If you can, print a list of all the Photrio user names that you expect to receive cards from on the outside of the envelope.
As you receive cards, comment on them, then mark on them the date you commented. Then mark on the envelope that you have received and commented on those cards,
These hints come from experience - I'be been participating since round 17, and before becoming this organized I had more than one opportunity to get truly confused about several cards lying inter-mixed on my desk.

Just received awty's card today "Self Portrait in Wire". A very interesting Cyanotype , and a very great looking card it is too, kind of an Picasso abstract of Mr Potato Head . The wrinkles in the paper back ground looks good also. Paul, what was the reason for using the orange filter?
And also the stamp you used is really nice, wish we had U.S. post card stamps as good looking.

Thats great Mike, wasnt too sure if any would get through the postal service. I may have written on some cards that it was yellow, but I remembered at some point it was orange. Used the filter to get the copper to stand out against the white background. The cards varied in paper type and contrast so none will be the same.

OK Paul, I kind of figured the filter was to add some contrast, great card worth the extra work you have put into it.

I echo the comments of mike c above about the card from awty. I like how Paul chose to only coat the image area. It resulted in a natural frame for a wonderful piece of wire art. Very well done.

I too have now received Rowreidr's card of pier 81. I love the square format (of which I like to do a lot!) that it's been cropped to, along with the shallow depth of field.

I am curious though about the list of various cameras, lenses and printer, listed on the back of the print though? I'm guessing it's made from a neg in film camera; the neg then photographed and then printed on inkjet? Have I missed a comment about it's production?

I too have now received the intriguing card from jvo. It's a very dark print all over and has piqued my imagination. It has had me returning to it a few times, with me looking closer at it each time.

As jvo mentioned early, the marks on the cards by postal system makes the cards even more unique and I really like that part. Thanks for the card jvo, received it yesterday. That is one of the wildest cards on this round, it is nice to have some alternatives too.

Also another good habit in this project is that the cards are not digitally available - one have to own the physical card to see it. It is quite down to earth, classic and "real". The things that are important.

Yesterday I received Paul's (awty's) marvelous Self Portrait in Wire! Really nice cyanotype image, great processing. You didn't say on the card, and I don't remember seeing in the thread, what kind of paper you used. That's a really nice paper. Also, the stamp on the card is really cool: celebrating the 100th anniversary of England-Australia air mail service. Great stamp, and great card. Thanks!

A card from bedrof, a studio shot of a photographer instructing a model, good use of props and lighting is very good , very nice thanks Ilya.
