And just received in the UK Darwin, with thanks.

A lovely card full of a range of tones and detail of 'Eeyore sitting in the mud', with Eeyore being a small boat.

With the card being made from a 4 x 5 negative, there is absolutely no grain to be seen, which is not too surprising!

But I do wonder if it was made as a contact print or via an enlarger?

Terry:

I am glad that you like to photo. It was printed via enlarger because I need to crop the image. When making this negative I was at the very edge of the seawall. This was the first time I wished that I had my 250mm lens (my pack on has room for 3 lenses: 135, 150, 210 are my "standard issue").

Regards,
Darwin

I too received a card from drpsilver (Darwin), although I believe its title is "Silting In, Bolinas".
It is nicely composed and well printed.
I am intrigued by the fact that the small boat's name can only be seen in the boat's reflection. It is almost ghostly that way.

A card from mfohl emerged from the pile of mail on my desk. I like how Mark captured the light on the stairs and wall. It reminds me of some images from Paul Strand. The other interesting point about this image is the paper ti is printed on - old Kodak postcard stock. Considering its age there is very little fog.

I'm guessing it was a contact print. I enjoyed seeing it anyway; I always appreciate the less obvious in photography.

Sounds like the same card that I got, which having re-looked, it seems that it does have the same title as your card, 'Silting in, Bolinas'.

For some reason I put down the last line of text on the card, 'Eeyore sitting in the mud', so maybe Darwin can enlighten us further on the two quotes?

Terry:

Indeed the title of the image is "Silting In, Bolinas". However, I like to add a statement about the image hence the comment about the boat in the mud. This image was made mid-day during low "slag" tide (tide at its lowest) under clear skies. The back of the boat was very brightly lit, but enough light was lost in the reflection to see the name of the boat (in mirror image).

At one time, before the surrounding hills were logged, this lagoon was easily navigable by fishing boats. Ever since the 1920's the lagoon has been silting in. So much so that at low tide one can walk to the island in the background without getting wet above their knees.

Darwin

Despite printing my cards up, even before the signup started, I have only just managed to get them all written up, stamped and finally sent yesterday = Tuesday 16 July 2019.
Terry S

Actually Terry, I got mine yesterday (7/18) so that was pretty fast! I love the tones and the different levels of the print, but I have to admit I like displaying it upside down. It seems "right" in that orientation, almost like a Dali painting, or that I'm looking at a mirrored ceiling. It doesn't seem like a photograph at all and I mean that in the best way.

Besides my own card, the only other I've received so far is mfohl's "shadow photo". Like others have mentioned, I like the graphic nature of the image, with the different leading lines and use of light and shadow to highlight different areas.

I'm sending out a mix of colour and B & W images in this round : ages ago I printed up a load of images for the exchange on some Forte PW semimatt and now I can't find them! I'm systematically going through boxes of stuff though and am optimistic that they will turn up ! In the meantime, I 've got lots of pictures from a project I'm doing on WW1 (June 28th was of course the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919),

Hi Rachelle, yes the cards that we have sent each other recently, really do seem to be getting a great delivery service. I'm very impressed with both countries mail services at this moment in time!

But seriously, it's good to hear when people have received cards sent, as it then makes all the effort, from beginning to end, worth the time, expense and everything else that it takes to make a card worth sending. So thanks once more for acknowledging receipt of the card sent.

And as for turning the card upside down to view it, I'm doing it right now and I think I can see where you are coming from / what you mean. But best of all, any connection at all, to being compared, however slightly, slightly, slightly to a Dali painting is an ENORMOUS complement that I will clutch as tightly as possible for as long as possible. Can you tell that I'm a happy lad as I write this?

I'll now sit quietly and happily, whilst I wait for the delivery of any further cards sent to me for this round.

Bit of a confession - I mixed up my cards in my comments above! (I don't know why I got confused about this, just tired from grading papers perhaps). It was Darwin's "Silting In, Bolinas" that I really like upside down (sorry Terry). But Terry I did get your card today and it reminds me of how much I love the Art 300 paper. I really should find a project to print on that wonderful paper. I love the framing and the border on this, it looks like a painted on emulsion.

LOL Rachelle! :D

No worries, I had a moment of glee when you first made the comment. I must now retake an upside down look at Darwin's card, which I too have received.

As for the Art300 paper, yes it is a lovely paper and I am down to my last two sheets. I was thinking of ordering another box with a chemical order coming up, but then I took a look at all the boxes and sleeves of paper from over the years that I still have to try printing with and finishing, so I'll put that order on the back burner for a while, but I'm sure I'll buy another box sometime soon. My new current box of go to paper is Ilford RC satin, a paper that I haven't received any prints on I believe, so this could be interesting...

Rachelle:
Thank you for the complement. When I get home from vacation (in Seattle now) I must look at the card upside down. Thank you for prompting us all to look at images in different ways. Unfortunately, I am not on Terry's list of recipients for this round.

Lucky for you Darwin, I have one or two spare prints for this round. I have your address, so I'll put one in the post to you after the weekend. Have a good one.

Another great card to add to my "upside-down" collection - iandvaag's "Frenchman River Fence" arrive today. I don't know why, but my first instinct was to orient it with the sky on the bottom. But I like it in the proper orientation too.

Maybe it's all the Stranger Things I've been binge watching lately - my head is stuck in the Upside Down. ;-)

And speaking of Stranger Things...don't know if you've seen this, but a question about the purpose of the "red room" (aka darkroom) in the series has a lot of people feeling old.

I just received the world's smallest postcard from graciemansion today. Through a peephole into a construction site. Thanks! I'm amazed it even got to me! Also, I received iandvaag's IR fence, lower corner artistically masked off. Thanks folks, good stuff!

Both of these fine cards came to me as well.
graciemansion's "Peephole" is indeed, tiny and quite fascinating. I definitely had to put my glasses on to fully appreciate it.
And iandvaag's "Frenchman River Fence" stands out for its composition and the feeling of cold it imparts. Although I know that the foreground is white due to the combination of the film used and the choices made during printing, it looks to me as if it was a shot taken in the snow.
One question for graciemasion: why the tiny card, when postage of a full size card to Canada would have been the same?
EDIT: And to Ian - I really like the Elsie MacGill stamp! For those who are unfamiliar, as I was: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elsie_MacGill
Here is the stamp:

Today, two things to mention:
1) my cards are now in the hands of the postal services - either Canada Post for Canadian recipients and mooseontheloose (Rachelle), or the United States Postal Service for US and all the other recipients. Rachelle's card accompanied her print for the Toy (and Box) Camera Print Exchange;
2) I received today a card which detective work leads me to believe was sent by awty for this Postcard Round 47. I believe its title is "Embroidery" . It is a very nice image - moody, with interesting shapes and light patterns. It is also nicely printed and split-toned. Some of the postal services' efforts have found their way to the image, and they co-exist nicely with it.
Thanks to everyone for the six cards received so far - they are much appreciated.

Wow, the postal service is fast from both Canada and Japan, where I received postcards from recently in good time!

So, thank you Rob Skeoch, who's card I have just received - complete, like others before, with some wonderful stamps. Our UK ones are normally quite uninspiring...

Rob's picture was taken at a Festival for India recently. He says that he thinks that the use of a 21mm lens is too wide for him, but personally I think that it has helped make the composition give the feeling of being surrounded by what looks like, so many people in one small space!

Although I'm not such a lover of large crowds, since I started having to use a mobility buggy, I'm sure I would have still enjoyed what looks like a great festival to visit.

Many thanks for the card Rob,

Received Paul's (awty's) embroidery postcard from down under. Very nice! Thanks Paul!

And ditto what Matt said above about the six (or so) postcards I've received - thanks.
