A few more cards again, so a few more comments:
...
bedrof
- "Sunset over Neva river, Saint Petersburg" - a beautiful, warm toned river scene, very well printed. The location is exotic, and the light is magical. Thank you.
Black Dog - "The Call, Edinburgh" - a really nice colour print, of a statue commemorating a war that ended a century ago. Thanks Jake for giving us a glimpse of Edinburgh.
Howard Earl - "Kent Falls State Park" - a beautiful waterfall, with evidence that the Inuit have had influence far afield (look up "inukshuk" to see what I mean. I like the printing choices too.
jvo - "Monk's view, Chapter House window, The Cloisters" - an interesting and enigmatic view of the outside, from the inside. Nice and large too!
12 of 14 cards received so far. Thanks everyone!
Thank you, Matt!

i wanted to check and see how many of cards i sent out were rec'd this round... there are comments from 7 people as having rec'd cards... so 9 of my cards were lost en-route or no comments.
for those that haven't rec'd one i'd like to be able to send another - email me. it won't be immediate, (printing, etc.), but i will do it.
James, you can count 'em 8 (well, 9 then as I see now Matt has received it too). Great card!
Will thoroughly comment on your card and three more soon.

Just received a nice postcard from Laurent. A nice lady on a quay by the river. Is that the Seine? Nice, thanks!

Thanks! No, this is river Thames, I did some street shooting during a business trip and found this lady was in the right spot.

I also have received Laurent's card. I like the balance between the women sitting and the "godrays" in the sky. Thanks for sharing your work.

I too have Laurent's card. I like the contrast between "grey" and "glow". And I like how it breaks a few composition "rules" in a satisfying way.

Comments finally
jvo and his Monk's view - an interestingly composed image with the strong sun light playing the good part to make this card work. Nice shadow and highlights rendition with such an SBR.
awty' s Embroidery is so beautifull with focus just where it is wanted. The toning works great for the scene.
Howard Earl - Kent falls state park - the balance of the stacks of stones looks really fragile and unstable. Very meditative card in different senses.
Wayne Frederick and his card of Abbott School. It looks very classic until the moment when you notice a painter's legs, which adds a tiny hint of humour.

Round 47 was an impressive one with so many great cards. Thanks to all the participants!

I've finally collected all of the cards I've received (I think!) and have a few from round 47:

Wayne Frederick's old school building - I like the "work in progress" with the painter, it adds an extra dimension to the photo
Howard Earl's Kent Falls State Park - the rock stacks add an unusual element to a beautiful waterfall shot
Laurent's river walk - a nice slice of life, although I have to admit my eyes are drawn to the light in the clouds!

A few more cards have come in:

JVOMonk’s view, Chapter House window, The Cloisters – Very nice tones. I like how the mortar is darker than the bricks in the sunlight, but in the deep shadow, the mortar is lighter than the brick. Very neat effect, and I like the glossy surface for this one.

Wayne FrederickAbbott School – I love that you can see the painter’s legs dangling off the scaffolding! Nicely printed.

bedrofFramed – The composition draws my eyes right in. I love the shadows – this was taken at the perfect time of day. Enjoy your new Yashica Mat 124G -- you clearly know how to use it to its fullest potential!

Thanks!

Mike C's Xmas-ized pickup truck was well received today.
After the well-timed subject matter it was the tonality that really struck me.
I really have to try TMY-400 myself now!

Thanks Mike and a very merry holiday season to you too!

Bill, I think you're in the wrong thread:smile:

Nope, it's the right thread. I received Mike's "Reindeer Antlers". Some people around here (Ohio) put these cloth reindeer antler thingies on the doors of their cars, both sides. Their supposed to make the car look a little like a reindeer. In Mike's case, the car (or pickup or whatever) is parked near a palm tree in such a way as the top of the palm is in the same position where the "reindeer antlers" would be.

It's easier to see than explain …

I meant that Bill (BSP), participating in Round 48, was not supposed to receive a card of Round 47:smile:

Oh, right. My bad. I might not be on the right planet …..

I had a veeeeeery hectic summer and am still trying to recover a "normal" life.

I'm trying to get back to the darkroom but time is very scarce, so I can promise I'll send my cards, but cannot commit about when... hope you'll pardon me!

Laurent
And I too have now received Laurent's card.

As it happens the subject matters placing wasn't so easy to work out, for I too thought it was maybe in France somewhere, until I read the back of the card. It turns out to be in London, a place I only lived in for about 20 / TWENTY years!!! I should have known where it was straight away really.

Anyway, thanks for the card Laurent and I hope your hectic life is now a bit more relaxing.

Yikes -- I was going through my postcards today and I found a few that I received some time ago, and I neglected to comment on. My apologies...

Black DogPrinces Street Gardens #1 – Nice spring photo. I would really like to see some daffodils now. This past week it reached -51 C where I live! I guess I need to take the Ferris Bueller quote to heart and appreciate what I have around me.

Mark FohlShadow photo – An architectural still life with very pleasing composition. The direct illumination really showcases the geometry of the scene nicely.

drpsilverSilting In, Bolinas – Lovely little scene with little silt islands poking above the surface of the water. It’s really neat how I can read the name of the boat in the reflection (eeyore), but not on the actual boat. Beautiful tonal range.

What is this TL-120 3D camera?
It is a "tri-lens reflex"; a Chinese made camera from circa 2007 for taking medium format stereo slides. It's amazing! You can see a photo of it in action here.

An interesting card from Laurent was found in the pile with yet uncommented cards of Round 48. Received it some time ago apparantly.
Nicely captured scene indeed.
Thanks!
