Postcard Exchange Round 42 Comments & Feedback

Hello all,

I've got:
Ari's polaroïd. Intriguing image, witha pastel look.
rrusso's "Discovery" , very "à propos" for round #42, would like to know what he's seeing ;-)
Foen's postcard on steroïds, The double helix is beautifully rendered.
David's "Taking on water". Timeless view, with people looking very busy and concentrated on what they're doing.

Received postcards from Rrusso and Drpsilver, a high point in my day to get such works of art in the mail. Love the rich blacks and creative compositions in both.

I have printed and toned mine and they are now flattening in a book.

Have drpsilver's card, caught it just before it entered the great bill's pile on my desk. Good positioning of forground tree and that fantastic bridge , that thing is wayyyy up there. The river I have seen off the 5FRWY headed north just before the rice fields on our way up to Oregon to visit my parents. Those muddy waters remind me of a Hackle Berry Finn story on the slow muddy waters of the Mississippi River. I also have a Bessa I with the Color Skopar lens , I learned to zone focus real quick when I took it to Europe on vacation a couple of years ago, have take it out again for the next P.C.E . Thanks for the card Darin.

Laurent's card arrived today, and this is the kind of thing that makes me wonder about the history of such places...in this case, a dilapidated house on the side of a hill which appears to be a state of erosion.

Laurent, do you know any more about it? Is this a beach? In any case, nice photo, thanks!

As an aside, I've temporarily given up on B & H for postcards, and I just received a box of 100 from Freestyle. Shipping was a bit on the slow side, but at least I've got them. I'm ready for the next round...

The story is that this house was sitting in the dunes near the English Channel (the true name is "La Manche", but I don't want to start a flame war ). The place is where I go for my vacation almost since I was born, and is very close to where my mother was born.
The prospect became apparent a few years ago, so I started photographing the house, but it was already clear that it would fall soon enough.
The dunes there have been eroded by something like 50 meters (I have no real measurements, but this is based on my childhood memories), as did all the coast line around the place, save for the rocks of course.
We also discover "new" rocks almoste every year, since the beach changes profile also.

The house I photographed is gone, save for a fex relics, but I started photographing the next ones to fall, before they start going derelict (at the moment people can still live there, but they are as close as 10 meters from the dune's edge).

I'll try to see if I can find some slides where the houses appear, that I took some years ago, before I went B&W, and in this case will post them to show the "progress".

Thank you darinwc for letting us know who sent the card. I noticed just today when I checked APUG that the description of the image was not mine (drpsilver), and wondered who was the correct photographer. It sounds like a very nice image, and it would be nice to see it "up close and personal", but sadly Darin is not on my list for Round 42.

I finally figured out why darinwc was not on my Round 42 list. It is because he isn't, but he is on my Round 41 list. The image referred to in the above post attributed to me, but the correct photographer is Darin, is his submission to Round 41. Below is the post I place in the Round 41 comments thread.

I have finally figured out the confusion between Darin and Darwin. The card sent to me by darinwc for Round 41 I thought it was for Round 42. I was doubly confused because darinwc was not on my Round 42 list. The bottom line was that comments about Darin's card (for Round 41) were posted in the Round 42 tread. The image is well composed, and I have crossed this bridge many times in my travels around California. I agree that a little more contact, and a burn in the foreground tree would help give the image more "impact".

OKay, think I got it straight now, found Darwin's card "ROT" like the vertical and horizontal position of the wood, it was left under the pile of unsorted mail on the dinning room table ,this is no way to run a post office.
Also Laurent's card from PCE 41 of that beautiful fence running along the shore with those grainy clouds in the background, like the in and out focus of this scene.
An last but not least is Neil's card from Harman, "Just Clouds" which lives up to its title, the back lit clouds really add depth to sky.
Thanks every body for the cards and having patience with my non existing mail sorting.

Thanks for all tbe cards received so far, will write some individual comments later. Printed mine on the weekend. My 7-year-old daughter helped me with some of the writing. She is in her first year of English at school and was very proud to help out. Will try to get them sent tomorrkw.
