Winger's card made it's way to the southwest coast of Canada as well.
I like the old books along with the newish glasses.
I also like all the "55" indicators - the uneven edges, the pattern at the end, and the wide tonal range and subtle transitions.

Thanks! Gotta love full frame contact prints. I do wish I had older looking glasses, but those were all I had (mine from the 90s, worn mostly to make me look older in court).

I too received your card, and am very glad you had the 55 film, and your neighbour tought you might want to photograph these books!

Oxleyroad's card today, nice soft sepia toned manhole cover from Detroit, I can remember people covering these with butcher paper and using crayons to catch the relief. This is a nice old Detroit cover worthy of photographing and printing, anymore they are made out of some kind of plastic and do not have the same uniqueness.
Also sent off my bunch of cards to places near and far.

My cards will be in the mail by now later than Wednesday.
Oxleyroad's card today, nice soft sepia toned manhole cover from Detroit...

I've received my copy of Oxleyroad's postcard today as well. Lovely light tone to the image, which I would never have guessed as being sepia toned until I read the details on the back of the card. It has also reminded me how lovely glossy RC paper can look with the right image. I have a bit of a love / hate (or probably closer to dislike) of the paper. At the moment I'm mostly printing RC Pearl but have a thing for RC Lustre and FB Matt coming on...

I also had to look up the camera used (a Frank Solida iii) and was pleased to see that it was a lovely looking rangefinder folder.

Also, I'm beginning to wonder what has happened to a few of the cards that I sent - have some of you still to post receipt of either mine or someone else's cards I wonder?...

I too have now received Oxleyroad's manhole cover. It is very nice, including being very well printed.

By the way, my cards are printed and labelled. The ones going to Canadian addresses are in the mail, and the ones going to US or international destinations should be in the hands of the US Postal service in the next day or so.

Oxleyroad's manhole cover also made it to the Netherlands, thanks! Crisp, light, very nice print. Your photo and some previous comments make me wonder what an older (boring?) manhole cover looks like. If you need inspiration for the next postcard round... there you have it.

O-Boy, first card off the starting line, looks like a 56 Merc all decorated with Christmas Tree lights, at night time ,in a yearly Chrismas parade, in the rain, somewhere in a town in West Virginia, an action shot for sure..No name mentioned who sent it," but a truly magnificent example of "Home Town Pride" being recorded on FILM. This card inspires me.

Wow...thanks very much! I didn't realize that I hadn't made sure that everyone knew it was me

The mystery card has also arrived in Pennsylvania. A beautiful, well exposed and printed postcard. I love the faint details you were able to hold in the darkened building in the background. They like to start parades with a strong band in the lead. We are off and running with a very strong image for round 40. If you haven't received this one yet, look forward to it arriving! Thanks.

Thank you so much!

The "mystery card" card also arrived in Los Altos, California. I agree that it well photographed and printed. The car reminds me of the stories that my Dad told me about his late 1940's Hudson.

Regards,
Darwin

Hopefully next time won't be a mystery!

I too have received the card with the wonderful old car - it is really nice.
Based on where it is from, I am guessing it is rpavich's card.

You guessed right.

I think you are right Matt , he is the only W.V. in the mailing list, guess its to late to start betting on the mailing list on line , winner take all.
Busted!
I've received the "mystery" card, with a very nice car beautifully printed on it.

What makes it a "better" mystery is that the card had no address information when I've got it.? The mail(wo)man was very amused of this, and proud that she properly decuted it was for me, due to the number of cards I receive!

Previously I've got a card which made it to Australia "piggy backing" another one (and was kindly forwarded by the unintended recipient), but this one is at least as nice!

I'm learning as I go, the last time i put my return address in the wrong spot and got most of my cards delivered back to me!

I just wanted to say that I received two nice cards so far:

Oxleyroad's "Manhole cover"
When I see something this creative, where such a nice print was made out of something so mundane it makes me want to go out and really try and improve. You can feel the grit and gravel in this shot. You can almost smell it.

Mike c
Spanish arch at Broadway in L.A.
This is so nice. You can tell that this was crafted. The detail and the shadows are really well done. I love the perfect symmetry, something I miss when I try and do this. I was surprised to see it was in SoCal...thought it would be New York the way it looked.

Nice surprise!

I too received the postcard from Mike C this morning, of a 'Spanish baroque terracotta arch'.

The card is sharp, the image fills the card and it displays a lovely range of tones.

A lovely print of a lovely bit of architecture.

Thanks Mike, another lovely print for my collection.

I've waited until now to send this message, because today all my postcards have gone out. I apologise for being all this late (and for the paper used ...)

Yesterday (14/03) arrived the first postcard to my post-box: Oxleyroad "Manhole cover". Thank you Andrew. First of all I'd like to say that it is curious I am in a similar project in my city, because the manhole covers (and not only them) are being removed and changed with new ones where the name of my city is no longer the same name (filthy political issues). I am taking those pictures to remember the real name.

Anyway, I liked you photograph very much indeed, and the square format although not the ideal for the card it is perfect for the subject. The sepia tone is very very light but it gives a more "earthly cover" appearance IMHO of course. What does the "S" on the manhole cover stand for?

By the way, nice camera!

Regards!

Hints that I've shared before:
1) Please indicate which exchange the card is part of - I am still "owed" cards from previous rounds, and sometimes they arrive late, and in the midst of other rounds;
2) Please include either a title or, failing that, a simple description ("interesting stump"). It really assists those who want to comment; and
3) Please include either or both of your APUG screen name and your real name - so we can figure out who the card came from.
I could be wrong, but I don't think postal services return postcards, so a return address isn't necessary.
Any other info I consider to be a bonus.

Oops, Bad news is that I forgot to mention the number of this round this time, I am sorry guys!

Good news is that I owe nothing to anyone so far, however from the (my first) previous round I have received 7 cards and only 3 confirmations (if I remember correctly) I guess that's the way it has to be, but I wouldn't like to leave anyone without a postcard. Do I have to receive the same amount of postcards that I send and from the same people? In fact, both this time and the previous I sent my number 10 (+2 extra), I think that those extra cards are not going to confirm anything, am I right? (I am aware that no one is obliged to confirm anything, and on the other hand also that I might receive some others later, perhaps)

If some of you have any questions or doubts about me, please let me know. I will keep an eye on these 39/40 threads despite of having my own doubts about my part in next rounds.

Thank you all and let the excitement continue!

Best for you all!

Some people always confirm.
Some people confirm more for some rounds then others (I am guilty of that).
And some almost never confirm.
I enjoy the confirmations, but don't "expect" them.
If you signed up to send 10, you could expect to receive 10, from the same people you sent them to - I think that is how the software app does it.
And by the way, all of my cards have now been mailed.

Understood Matt, thanks. My concern was that someone could miss my part (card) of the game, I am aware that sometimes Postal Mail plays tricks. For instance, in the previous round I had to resend one of my postcards that had mistakenly arrived at my home instead of flying to the U.S.A. ... (someone must have misunderstood it and at least the sender was on the card) This time I've made sure that postcards are rightly understood.

Regards!

Apologies to all - life has reared its head in the past couple of months and derailed my schedule slightly.
I'll be back on deck over the weekend, and hoping to have my cards in the post early next week.

You know there is a fellow here in detroit that has been taking photos of manhole covers with his feet in the picture. The interesting part is he always has different shoes on each foot in the pictures. I do have a collection of the different manhole cover photos so maybe I will send out a 'boring' cover in the future.

When I checked the mail today, iandvaag's fine card was there.
An almost extra-terrestrial setting, with a mysterious dark suited figure in a prominent location. I happen to be listening to Leonard Cohen in the car, and he immediately came to mind.
And black borders - this shows dedication!
Could it get better? While yes - I turned it over and there, in his youthful glory, is an image of William Shatner in a Star Trek themed Canada Post "forever" stamp.
Well done!
And because it is so Canadian I just have to say "Sorry" to all those who didn't get a Star Trek stamp on my card.

This has been a very full year: big trips in January, both my wife and I being really sick in February, and not much "darkroom time" in March because of other commitments. That said, my cards have been printed and toned, and are ready to be spotted. Once that is done then they will be ready to post. I hope to have them ready to send by the middle of next week.

I have received a bunch of very nice images that I will comment on later. Thanks to all for the wonderful images you have sent.

Darwin

Matt:

The US Post Office also issued a 4-stamp "forever" series honoring 50 years of Star Trek. They used graphics characteristic of the show instead of pictures. Overall it is a nice issue.

My cards are ready for delivery to the US Postal Service. They will go out on Monday.

Here are my comments on the cards that I have received, in no particular order.
The card from kraker shows a very peaceful place. I like how you incorporated the railing in such a way not to make it distracting. Well done.
The card from tezzasmall reminds me of the trip to London in 2007. I found "The Tube" to be the easiest transit system I have used, and remember to "mind the gap".
A very nice architectural rendering from mike c of a building from another era. You managed the converging lines very well. The range of tones makes the print very pleasing. Well done.
I really like the card from Oxleyroad. Detroit reminds me of my Dad who grew-up there (and died in 2013). All the manhole covers were I live are emblazoned with the foundry were they were cast. Thank you for trying to preserve a little of Detroit's history.
The card from winger is very nostalgic for many reasons: (1) I miss Type 55, (2) I volunteer with the Los Altos Friends of the Library and books are very close to my heart, (3) makes me miss Polaroid even more. I like the composition - it is a classic - and you managed to control a very difficult film nicely. I am also surprised that T55 from 2005 was still usable. Very nicely done.

Darwin

I could not sleep Friday night, so I got up an spotted my postcards. That allowed me to label them Saturday, and get them to our letter carrier. They are on their way to your mail boxes. Hope you enjoy the image I selected.
