Postcard Exchange Round 34 Comments and Feedback

OK folks, finally had time to go through my pile of Round 34 cards. In no particular order, I have received:

MrBrowning - Sharpness and tonality of the flowers is amazing, the selective development is a cool idea.
RandalCav - Very postcard-like image, lots of contrast, good job on the sky
MattKing - Another one from the old power plant, I loved the last one and this one too. Excellent detail shot and good use of depth of field.
drpsilver - That grass isn't glowing, it is GLOWING. Great capture.
Pelo78 - I like the geometric composition, crisp highlights and deep shadows.
txfzi - Love it! One of my passions is shooting the old silver mining relics in my part of the world. The gentle light on the weathered roof boards is perfect.
mooseontheloose - Wow! My favorite postcard I've had from you and one of my favorites so far in any exchange. Fantastic composition and the infrared look complements it perfectly. Fighting the crowds was worth it!
mikec - Great texture and detail shot, the light is makes it happen.
ozphoto - A sad subject, thank you for choosing it. A photo that communicates its message immediately, well done.
megzdad81 - For not having worked in 15 years your Hasselblad did just fine. I like the low key image, something different than the norm with a subject like this.
Horst - Lovely contact print. The sky and the light on the distant field are awesome.

And the stragglers keep coming in...received a wonderful print from Bert (TheToadMen). It's not just the tongue, it's its perfect placement in the nostril. Great capture of one of my favourite animals!

Bert, I must have gotten one of the other cards you made, and its great. All ways wanted to try Albumen, its a great photograph of the Town of Deventer with a river crossing in front. Is this a contact print or enlargment ?

I also received Bert's albumen card of Deventer. I love the historical aspects of photography and I want to thank you for taking the time to craft this wonderful card. This modern albumen image is very appealing and it even fools you into thinking it was shot a long, long, time ago. Thanks!

And mike c, it's an Albumen contact print made with an (enlarged) digital internegative.
But I do want to make contact prints with analogue negatives in the future.
All in due time.

Hello all,

sorry for having been so long, which made my miss round 35... at least my cards are in the mail box (they were sent last Tuesday). So I hope you get them soon.


I have received several cards since my last post, and enjoyed them all.

I definitely have to make more time for photography, and MUST improve in the darkroom!

After a longer than usual delay (which made me miss round 35), I am now (finally) getting ready to send out my cards for round 34. Printed them today, actually the first thing I printed in my newly constructed darkroom (a permanent darkroom at last, woohoo!).
Just need to address and send them. Before doing so, I will send a PM to the intended recipients to check for potential address updates. I plan to send the cards within a week.

Got your very nice postcard in the mail today in the USA. A very nice print. I love my old Bronica SQa, but the RF645 must be a joy to use. I love that format. If this is your first print from your new darkroom you are off to a great start! I love railroad related photographs. I will see you again in round 36 thanks for sending me the card.

Anakin's card arrived in the post today - worth the wait, I really enjoy these images. This one reminds me of my hometown, with the river and the bridge (compared to Bangkok, these are babies).

I too received Anikin's card - for some reason the small size, border, glossy paper, and image all make me think that this could have been a photo taken 50 years ago (I mean that in a good way!).

Time to catch up...

I have received at least the following cards:
MattKing, Manifold. Beautiful detailed print showing part of a diesel engine. It's like I'm looking at the real thing (without the smell).
mike c, tree bark and rock and some very nice play of shadows included for free. Lots of detail, lots of things to look at.
drpsilver, glowing grass, Napa. The title is right, it really seems to glow. Lovely. Just some five more months till spring, this photo will help me cover that time.
TXFZ1, School's out. What can I say? Derelict house in a forest-y landscape. You've got me, I like this.
TheMissingLink, a very nice landscape shot, tire tracks in the foreground, a patchy sun through the clouds on the rolling landscape further away, and some of those clouds to finish it off. Very nice.
adelorenzo, Pooley canyon. We don't have views like that over here. Great. Lovely paper surface, also. That reminds me that I still have a pack of Ilford Art 300 somewhere, time to start experimenting with it.

Anikin, Portland Burnside bridge. With more bridges in the distance. Lots of detail, well done.

I have probably received some more cards, but these are bound to be on a different stack, or not on a stack at all. If you have sent me a card for round 34 but don't find it mentioned here, then that's all my bad. If and when I find more cards, I will report back here.

TheToadMen, in contrast to the previous photo, this is actually a view I recognize. Looking from Worp (or somewhere quite near it) towards Deventer.

Spot on!! It's made from the ferry across the river IJssel at very, very high water. The IJssel hotel was almost flooded.
