DRPSilver – Great eye, to see images like this in the ordinary is a gift I wish that I had. A minor niggle – there are some dust spots on the neg that made the print that I got.

01 Oct 2008

Mike:

Thank you for your kind words. I really like looking for "images in the ordinary". When wandering around the place I was renting in Hawaii I found this old pump house. Many of the spots that you see are white paint on the walls, and knot holes in the siding (especially in the upper left corner of the image). There is also the possibility that the post office "personalized" the card for you.

I am glad you enjoyed the photograph.

Regards,
Darwin

I just received Kate's and Lynda's postcards.

Both are quite amazing and Lynda has me thinking about a new way to shoot.

Very cool. Thanks.

I had a teacher who used to say, "The best excuse is no excuse. There are no excuses." Really helped get everyone responsible for themselves in that class. He also used to say, "Your competition is perfect." That'll light a fire under anyone's butt...

But, kidding aside, if you sign up for an exchange and then foresee that it'll be impossible to honor your commitment, let the thread & it's coordinator know as soon as possible, so that everyone doesn't waste their time and money sending you a card.

Received two more cards today, both well worth the wait.

Sile's bandstand, well, that's something different than the usual Ilford Postcard postcards; nice.
Lynda's bridge... wow, this really works. I guess it wouldn't work for just any picture, but this is a great picture for this way of processing. Quite an interesting combination! Does this combination result in useable slides? If so, I really want to give it a try! Thanks for showing and sharing this.

Yes, your photo a couple enjoying ice cream reached Vancouver Island. It looks like it was a blistering hot day. Hope you had ice cream too!

Simplicius:

Thank you for the compliment on my card. I am glad you like it. Your card card titled "Eyes Front" made it to Los Altos, California. It looks like a fun street show you were photographing. I am really caught by the one puppeteer that is looking at you.

Darwin

Received two cards today. The card from Lynda is really cool. I would have never thought of cross-processing XP2 Super in E-6 chemistry. Do the transparencies look good enough to project (like normal E-6 films)? Nevertheless it gives a really cool effect when printed. Nice composition with all the converging lines. Thank you for the card.

The other card I found in the mail is from brchambe. Brian, I know exactly were this is. I used to visit the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum frequently when I was growing-up in San Jose. It is a fascinating place to visit. Nice tones in this image. Like me, you got a Holga with a lens of "sharp focus". Thanks for the card.

Regards,
Darwin

I received Lynda's postcard yesterday. Really find it very interesting. I especially like the Frank Gehry building on the right of the bridge. Big, shiny, and metal, that's what I love!

Thanks!

Received Brian Chamber's postcard of the grounds of the Egyptian Museum in San Jose, CA taken with a Holga. Love the look of the image with all its imperfections. Makes me want to try a Holga. Wonder how close you can focus?

Kate -- received your postcard yesterday. It's really beautifully done and wonderfully infrared without being infrared -- good work!

Postcard wall

Well my wall is kinda full - had to start overlapping the cards a bit. I haven't been keeping really good track - just recieved Sile's today, but don't know if I'm still owed any more. It has been a great to recieve such an eclectic selection of images, and I'm looking forward to the next exchange.
So do I take these down and start over? Put up a new board and eventually cover all the wall space in the house? Maybe I'll get an album of some kind for these and reuse this board. What do you do with yours?

Oooh... love your wall Sly. I just keep mine in separate boxes but I like the idea of having the current exchange out on display like that to remind me of what I have received and for when I write out my cards.

For the Australians who are in the next round, remember that starting from the first Monday in November, Oz post has discount postcard stamps for the Christmas season.

I sent some postcards today (not for the next exchange) and postage is currently $1.35, I believe in November it will be $1.20 per postcard.

I'll be sending my postcards in the Christmas special period:D

Mick.

As to what to do with the postcards, once you have all/most of them- I stick them into a 3 ring binger fitted with photo organiser sleeves as they come in. Once I have more than 25 for the current round, I take them out of the binder, and arrange them on foam core to my liking, and then take them in to work. They go up in the lunchroom for a few weeks, and get a good look over by all, and get good discussions going. I ultimately take them home and re-file them to my 'postcards bainder'.

Great idea as well Mike!

Received Sile's postcard of a lonely bandstand. Thanks, your card is very nice. Came all the way from Ireland with nary a mark or scratch. Thanks for your kind comment about my postcard!

Three more cards came in today from Lynda, Brian and Sile leaving only 3 more to come in. It looks like I am going to have to give a Holga a try.
