Yesterday gordrob's delapidated barn arrived. There's a good combination of textures with the grass, the barn itself and the clouds.

Thanks!

Thanks for the comments Pete - I can't believe how fast it got to you overseas with all the Christmas mail in the postal systems. Six days - excellent service

Take care

Gord

Donald Grindstaff's serene faced lion, really nice play of light and shadow , and as always exceptional image byB/W Kate with glass marbles that I positioned correctly  before I have seen little note at the back.Well done. Post cards are getting better all the time.

I still have the "old year's resolution" to catch up with all received postcards and say something about each of them here... I hope I can find some time for that soon.

Failing that, for now, I want to say a big thanks to all those who have sent me a card. And a big thanks for all comments received on my card. (BlackDog, I had to look up the meaning of "chiaroscuro" :D ).

This is a largest amount of cards I ever received. Two more arrived today.
kingjon's beautiful view of Tumon Bay, well framed, only post office slapped long white sticker , still a nice photo.erikg Good looking photo of Fort Plain NY, I love the format and always thought Mamiya 7 is a way to go for a range finder. I think this Fuji 6X9 is really good, very nice contrast and DOF. WoW.

Thanks guy's, what a exchange.

Wait! He mailed you a barn? I though we were just supposed to mail post cards!:D

And if you have his barn, where is gordrob going to keep his livestock now?

Sorry, just feeling silly this morning. Not enough sleep!

Thanks to all for the great postcards this time round!

Yes, but there are so many holes in it that the livestock have already escaped!

Yesterday erikg's street scene arrived. It looks warmer than the snow here. Thanks erik!

Although I'm still waiting to get 6 more cards, I'll post my comments on the ones I've received so far. In random order:

Peter Schrager made a nice photo of a (his?) swimming pool. It has a bit of a film noir touch, although I can’t really tell why.
Buster6x6 sent an image of a scrap yard with lots of details in it, I like to ‘Todd’s gas can’ detail.
erikgs photo of Fort Plain has a great tonality and depth. The telephone pole and traffic sign add a three dimensional sense to it.
gordrobs card depicts an abandoned barn. The burning in of the sky produced a halo around the roof, which attracts your eye to the barn.
Mark Fisher made a photo of a cute pig on a country fair. The Dover Inn got a pretty nice price for the hog!
Mark Mombarg sent a dark and atmospheric image of a meat market in Beijing.
Adams The Cyclone in Brooklyn looks a bit abandoned, but judging by the long shadows, perhaps it was still early in the morning.
krakers Mall2 shows a complex light and shadow pattern. Very well seen!
hal9000 sent a well executed street scene, that’s extremely detailed. It’s possible to read even the smallest signs with a magnifier!
BirgerA made an abstract picture of the mirror effect in the Reichstag dome in Berlin. It’s hard to tell what’s top and bottom1
tim_walls’ close-up of a light bulb indeed made me realise that enlarger bulbs are getting increasingly harder to obtain these days.
Allen Fridays card shows a cool photo of two guys casting bronze. Despite the film (Delta 3200) and probably due to the format (6x9) there’s not much grain.
bdial sent a photo of a paint-chipped door with a ‘private’ sign on it. Nice texture and tonality.
gphoto120 sent a classic beach scene of the tide coming in. Is it me or does the driftwood in the sand look like a dead bird or something?
Jon King made a nice image of the entrance of a mission in San Antonio. Lovely tones!
eric’s photo made me laugh, the look on the dog’s face means trouble! Very nice photo, great use of dof.
Mick Fagan sent a lovely high key portrait, I especially like to skin tones against the white surroundings.
MattKings toned driftwood image is beautiful. I’m sorry to hear that your stock of favourite paper is running out.
Doug Smith made a really cool diptych with his Diana toy camera. I can’t tell if it was shot directly in the sun or it’s a full moon.
Nicholas Lindans photo was a bit weird at first, the flamingo’s neck is in front of its legs, well seen!
Black Dogs card shows a still life, toned in selenium. Great idea to photograph items collected during your favourite walk.
rst sent a beautiful photo of a leaf. I love the texture and tones, you can almost feel the brittle surface of the leaf.
gr82bart sent me my first cyanotype I’ve seen in real life. Makes me want to try the process myself, very cool!
Mike Wilde made the only color card I’ve received (so far). Although I always thought color printing was way more work than b&w, I’m sure it’s a lot easier with your processor. Very nice image!

Got a couple more in the last few days:
Geoff's shipyard wire. I love how abstract the tangled wire is.
erik g's street. I like the lighting. Is there a racetrack nearby?
Jon's shot of Tumon Bay. Now that's paradise compared to where I am.
Buster6X6's what is the big unit the shovel is leaning against?
valerie's branches & spider webs. medium format was an excellent choice for this shot.

Hi Folks,

OK got another batch of fantastic prints since my last post:
  • Unnamed postcard showing the Palast der Republik. Really cool space tower like out of a sci-fi movie.
  • A serene image of a lion from Donald.
  • Birger's reflections from Berlin. Really cool.
  • I really like the light bulb image from Tim. Don't think would have looked that great if the bulb were CFL though. LOL
  • Nice shot of the Coney Island Cyclone from Adam.
  • I really like the shot from Doug P. Very Kenna-esque! One more LOL.
  • Kraker - nice image of the mall reflections. Like this postcard a lot.
  • A rustic barn from Gord in Alberta. I've got to make another field trip up there again.
  • A 'street scene' from Fort Plain, NY by Erik G. I like images like this. Ture 'snapshot' of time and place. Really like this image a lot.
  • Tangled up wires or rope strands from Geoff.
  • Jon King sent an postcard of a mission door. Nice range in the postcard.
Thanks for another great stack of cards everyone. Seriously, this is really outstanding and were just past half way done too. This means only more fantastic images to come!

Regards, Art.

Received Tim's Lightbulb yesterday. Is the mesh to protect the bulb from being broken? I love how you can see the coils inside the bulb, and just a hint of the glass.

Running Child by Dianna M-another superb portrait with effective use of blur [and just one small but crucial patch of sharpness in the middle]
Fort Plain by Ericg-reminiscent of LF and Walker Evans with lots of crisscrossing diagonals and blocks of space/tone within the frame
Guam by Jon King-moody sky with clouds appearing to dwarf the buildings in the distance
Marbles by BWKate-particularly enjoy the mini reflections within each marble and the assorted ways they catch the light
Florida Pool by Peter Schrager-agree with previous comment about it reminding them of film noir!
Wedding Dresses by Mark Mombarg-spooky and surreal;an impression enhanced by the lighting and printing
Ring of Brodgar by Klinger-dramatic sky and subtle colour palette;sorry to hear about your flood losses
All Good Pigs Go To Heaven by Mark Fisher-ROFL!:D
Blue Village by PepMiro-not a treatment I'd have thought of for this image but very mmody;nice light and use of diagonals too
Plastic Crabs by Stan160-what a funny lot they are on the other side of the channel. Les chiens fou et les Anglais, mes amis:tongue:...
Pillars by Art- a moody and dreamlike cyanotype
Tree by Gmessarit-lovely subtle tones and contrasts of light/shade
Barn by DRPsilver-moody sky and punchy tones
Waller, TX by Randyman-the most enigmatic card so far, with its ladder that seems to lead nowhere....the sort of details you can so easily walk right past
Wheelchair by Matthijs-and again!-the everyday can be so strange...
Lake Jolster by Mikeg-great lowkey moody landscape;another surreal one like the previous two-why is the chair at the end of the jetty like that?
Wheelie by Tim Gray-well spotted-just goes to show that chance favours a prepared mind!
Thanks for a great bunch of cards, everybody.:D

Marry Christmas everyone!
Today I think I got the last two entries in this postcard exchange.tim_walls " light bulb" it reminds me of bulbs used in the last century with carbon filament . Very unique look.
blackmelas "Orthodox priests" What a nice paper and developer combination. Well done. I really like the story behind it to, thanks James. I appreciate your comments on my entry.

I think I received cards from everyone...
gmessarit - a tree in Ancient Olympia - gorgeous rich tones in the print!
eric - Dang dog! nice expression on the dog and I like the square image.
Geoff - scene from a shipyard, awesome composition.
Valerie - scene from the kitchen - you absolutely captured the mood and light, so lovely - this is one of my favorites in the exchange.
Donald Grindstaff - King of the jungle, with very nice rim lighting from the setting sun.
kraker - mall scene, I like the patterns and geometry, too!
unsigned - Berlin TV tower scene, I love getting postcards showing parts of the world I never see - very nice print, too!
mattking - driftwood - Lovely sepia-toned 5x7 print on Polymax paper. I also used the last of my Polymax earlier this year... it was the first paper I ever printed on and I'll always remember the stacks and stacks of yellow boxes in the camera store...
Ian - plastic crabs - great! I felt like I was there on a summer afternoon browsing the fair.
klinger - scene from Orkney - the color print is very nice!
blackdog - Malo's 3rd #1 - another one of my favorites - very nice mood and light.
Jon - scene in Guam over water, nice! another part of the world that I've never seen.
Randall - Waller, TX No. 1 - beautiful tones and textures!
drpsilver - Evergreen Barn - wow, the sky, just marvelous!
Mike Wilde - Toronto at Sundown - beautiful print, and I enjoyed reading the description of your workflow for this exchange.

I agree with the other comments that this exchange has been the best yet. I wish I'd signed up for 40+ instead of just 20!

Looking forward to the next round,
Dianna

Three cards have arrived over the last week:
Thanks Bob F for the colour print. That's quite a challenge to take on colour printing and send out your first efforts.
MikeG for the atmospheric lake. It looks very cold and wet!
Valerie's foggy front yard. Square formats are very satisfying.

Got a card of a wheelchair in a subway station, I can't read the name. Surprisingly, the way it is mounted, survived the trip from the Netherlands. I like the backstory for it. And I love the lighting in it.

Surprise ,surprise :D I got two more cards today.
mikeg's Jolster lake dock pointing into a stormy clouds, I like the position of the chair, it is nicely braking symmetry of the shot. Well done.
Valerie's Short DOF branch with the spiderweb, simple but appealing I like it. Frame around the image looks almost three dimensional?

Great round Greg

That would be my card! I'm glad you like it. My only worry was indeed that the photo would come off the mounting paper, but luckily it didn't.

Matthijs, my copy of it came through intact too, I never would have expected a mounted print in the postcard exchange, it's lovely.

Thanks too to everyone for all the others. I suppose I should, but I don't keep track. But going to the mailbox is a great adventure.
