Thanks for commenting.
Yes, the lovely Rolleicord’s Xenar lenses tend to give that look.

No story, really. I was in a part of the city dominated by hassidic jews, and the background was pleasing to me. Just a compositional play with the square format.
Nicely Done.
With the shadows, the man, the fire escape, his hat, and downward posture............it just made for a very unique looking photo
And then i guess there is something out of view we cannot see.
The shadow makes it look like he has his hand up to his face, but that obviously is not the case.

As a square photo should be: action on all 4 sides

Happened only once, ever! And I told her she was Fuccinnstoopid. Exactly those words.
I’m really not a good guy to mess with... And I just can’t stand morons talking about their privacy rights while there’s about 15 city cameras filming us at every corner.

So I shoot and I let the morons come to me. It very rarely happens, actually.

I like them all, but if I had to pick favorites I like the second one, and the 5th -- the lady reaching in to get the stool out of the water.

A bunch of these are like textbook examples of composition, but man that rule of thirds draws your eye right to the stool in the water. You couldn't have posed that better.

Great prints, too. Thanks for sharing.

Yep, I do not understand when people dismiss the square. Just take the reaching lady for example, can you imagine how much distracting crap could have entered that frame if it was wider?

It’s a Telerolleiflex shot

I'm thinking the opposite. It'd be zoomed farther in (to reduce distracting crap) and there's nothing I need to see there. The path leads the eye, the stool is right at an inflection point... basically this is knowing your format and framing a shot perfectly for it.

I'm not kidding when I say I appreciate when people post stuff like this. I get inspiration from seeing how people compose and 'see' these things. I'm going to try and shoot some squares.

Good vibe in this thread. Coming here makes me want to go out and shoot! @faintandfuzzy - just 5 posts since 2005?! Don't be shy, your work is excellent, I think I've seen you on dpreview maybe? A couple of shots look familiar.
I decided to ditch DPReview and start coming here more often. Thanks for the kind words! Are you the Greg shooting Fuji MF?

This one I enjoy. I have a thing for taking pictures of people taking pics with their phones, especially filming at concerts. But before that I used to go to touristy places and take pictures of the people taking pictures.

They're all great though. What film are you using for these?

A new Bunch

You have such a great eye! The kid in the window and the mannequin hand are my favorites from this lot. But I am also inspired by your framing and composition.

@Moose22 hehe you reminded me of my 2020 obsession with exactly the same thing

I still do it. It's not my "thing" this year, but I can't help myself. That dude spent so much time holding the phone over his head I had to tell him to at least put it below his head level.

Your shot is great. People really enjoying the beauty of the scene, really being present in the moment.

And rather than a new post, edit to add that I love the composition on the second one.
