My understanding of street photography is that of an un-staged image taken in a public space.

It's actually more of everyday life on the streets or related to street life .(so photos of stoned blokes in a basement are certainly within street) Is a lone guy looking at an empty stage in a theatre within same span of thought? If it is, I see it as a stretch of the definition. Not every photo needs to be assigned to a drawer and I think street is quite closed on what is expected, but I'm sure this could be argued to no end. Same to what I said about that beach shot from the top. I would not stick it in the street genre as there is just quite suspense of nostalgia within it, and that for me widely departs from street expectations. IMO as always.

The stage and theatre are not empty as there is a organ player at the organ and sold out seating, in Covid times.

I have always thought of "Street Photography" as showing the intereactions or causation of human activity. It never occured to me to be taken litterally.

A pleasing picture. A man in formal attire wearing dreads, sunglasses, and a neck brace on the beach, and a very large seagull. 35mm? I don't think so. More in the realm of post-production i-phone photography. I will not lose any sleep over this, but why would this qualify as 'street photography'? Cheers, SnC.

Leica M7 + Summicron-V4 50mm on Fuji C200 film.
In miami Beach, the beach is the Street.

This image was among a series of 8 images depicting Miami Beach and I was among the 3 finalists in the Miami Street photography festival, jurried by big names (magnum etc...). Supposedly my series is now kept and archived in the Miami history museum.

The most important thing to remember is probably the fact that I didn’t win 1st place, and that’s maybe because, as you say, it looks doctored. But my pride comes from the fact that ALL my work is never cropped and none is doctored, ever.

I was Highly inspired during those days, I still can’t understand how I got some of the shots.

I really don't see this picture as doctored in any way...not sure how someone arrives at that conclusion, frankly. It's pretty straightforward.

I've put enough miles on my shoes to say it's not an unusual scene especially in a place like Miami. It's a nice shot and certainly within the admittedly broad definition of 'street photography'.

I could see that the seagull looks somewhat out of place... its size in relation to the environment. It’s quite far but too big to be that far, and too small to be this close. In other words, is the seagull before or after the couple? It certainly is hard to tell...

i will have to find them. I hate the computer so much that I tend to lose my files, and I suck at everything that involves sitting in front of the computer for more than 2 minutes.

thanks for your interest
