Stephen not sure which image is the one you try to show but I just love the contrasty one. Great lighting!

Today is the anniversary of taking this image. Wouldn't have gotten it except an ATM ate my card and I was trapped on Orkney a few extra days.

No, but am in the process of building a studio and darkroom, so may change in the future.....thats if I can manage to do anything good.

If you can do as good as the images you post here, you’ll have my money. Let us know when you get that darkroom up!

Taken on 4x5 FP4, PyroCat-HD developer, orange filter. This is a lousy scan of my first stab at this negative.

Does this adequately reflect your opinion of that ATM ?
Lovely, interesting and powerful photos.

Thanks. Except for the Ring of Brodgar, aka ATM shot, these are work print images and are part of a project revisiting images that had promise but never went anywhere. The way I see has changed over time and I decided to be less rigid with things like cropping (still nothing from the sides - 1st and 2nd image). For certain subjects, the 4x5 format includes too much negative space reducing the dynamic. Took me a long time to get over my self imposed restrictions.

The only people who care whether you crop are others who dont crop....and their probably not going to buy one of your pictures any how. You should do what ever it takes to get the best out of a negative...which you obviously do very well at.
