A crime against good taste. It's like being stuck with 1970s fashion.

They mostly had good intentions and probably kept at least a few churches from clasping. There is a group that restores historic churches that you should probably check out. Maybe even find a few leads. Friends of the Friendless Churches.

I love the history you present with the images. From books or local knowledge?

I believe I used a 90mm (4x5). As you noted, there isn't that much space to back up into.

Ok that is quite wide.
Did you use swing? There’s is some compression going on.
This is not a backhanded compliment. It’s a great photo. There is just something “strange” going on with the geometry.

It is one of the few images that I've cropped. The composition fell between two lenses. I basically was left with too much ceiling. Moved down some and took in the sides some to keep the proportions. Maybe that is what you are seeing. Wide but tighter than you would expect.

St Peter's at Hamsey was going to be torn down by the Victorians after their new one had been built but was saved - it had the graveyard, not the new one.
Friends of the Friendless Churches. Yes, I've visited a number of their churches in Wales and Suffolk/Norfolk. I am so pleased they are giving their best efforts to
conserve the old unused churches. I always see them as being ordinary man's history of the time with some really surprising information, as with
St Peter's and a visit from Athelstan in 925, rather than the rich rulers history via their castles.

The history is part from local history classes and other from books. I enjoy history, it all starts from there.

Agreed. It was most gratifying to find so many people in GB with expertise on their local history, even if it was just on their own house.

There are no plans. The uploaded images are from the initial stages of an idea for a potential series comparing ancient and modern Britain's world views through their religious architecture. I was just beginning the process of being introduced to the subjects and working out how to approach them when it had to be put on pause.
