We are, if I be not mistaken, about to have another bi annual Photokina.

Were you to be given but one choice what would you like to see introduced this year?

Hey, I get to go first.

I would like to see all of these nice new lenses developed by Zeiss for Nikon etc. to be available in Contax C/Y) mount. I understand why it has not happened in the past but this is my wish.

The re-introduction of a Nikon's film SLR aimed at the advanced amateur with a price point of about $500US. I l know I'm dreaming, but since you asked...

Time to go watch Bill Clinton's speech at the DNC.

New Zeiss lenses for Canon EF and FD mounts.

Since we're wishing, 8X10 Kodachrome in 10 sheet boxes.

A 6x9 camera similar to the veriwide, but with a modern (rodenstock) 38mm or (SK) 47mm. It needn't be rangefinder coupled (although i'd love it to be), but it would need to be small like the original, use a single stroke advance, be more ergonomic and cost under 2k. Additionally I'd like to see a modern RF to replace the Mamiya 6. It could be the same as the original with the addition of a wider base line, a 38mm f/4,5 and a 180mm f/4,5 that focused closer then the 150mm.

I'd also like to see RFholder like Sinar's Zoom, but at 1/4 of the price. A reintroduction of the Kinematic (a 10 sheet graphmatic).

A better mood within the industry...

Agfa, Ilford Photo, Ferrania, Filmotec... are not coming

Thus neither me.

A 6x7 rangefinder with interchange backs with the following lenses, 50mm f4, 65mm f2.8, 80mm f2, 110mm or 120 mm f2, and 210mm f2.8. All manual.

I've got two Kinematics, but I'd rather see a 10-sheet Grafmatic (Grafmatics being less wonky in general than Kinematics).

You mean you wouldn't complain that it wasn't in a 25-sheet box?

I would be elated beyond words IF Kodak actually started making the Kodachrome again in sheet in any size, packaging, etc, etal, ...

But you're right - I'd have to complain about something just for general principles. Anything else would be sorely against my nature. I'm a whiney-butt and I admit it!

A new film camera. Of any kind. From any manufacturer.
You know, just for the statement.

Better battery powered strobes, at lower cost. Ideally this would match low end monolights. I would even be happy with slightly long recycle times, as long as the output is strong and useful.

A lower cost intro level Linhof rangefinder. Of course, I don't ever expect that, so I am designing my own, and already built one prototype. So with a little luck, maybe I can make the 2010 Photokina.

Ciao!

You mean, like the wonderful Linhof 220? I loved that camera! It's only fault was the film advance, which was prone to breakage. Well, so was the handgrip, for that matter... but it was a great camera!

My wish is for the return of both the Technika 70 and the Press 70. And while I'm dreaming, how about the camera and a set of three lenses, all for under $2,000??? :surprised:

I think the 220 was a nice concept, but poorly executed. Got to handle one a few years ago, and it was definitely weird, though I could see how a different approach to the design might make for a better camera.

The Technika 70 is cool, but heavy for what it does. My preference would also go towards a 4x5 camera, since you can always add a rollfilm back.

So ideally it would be a simplified Linhof with more limited movements. This could reduce construction and manufacturing costs. Linhof already address the one-camera-for-every-use market, so why not a more limited, or entry-level Linhof . . . Anyway, that was my idea, though it led me to making my own precision camera.

I'd certainly go along with the Fuji folder and I think it may just happen. Now I don't suppose we could persuade someone to make a batch of sensibly priced 5x7 film holders to save the format from extinction, could we?

I don't get why 5x7 is pushed over 5x8. Seems there would be less film wasted for 5x8, since you just cut 8x10 in half. Then if you really want a 5x7 final image, you crop that. What am I missing?

I would like to see a company produce a long life lithium 1.35 volt version of the banned Mercury PX 625 battery for all the classic cameras, and light meters that use them .

I don't think you're missing anything, it's just a case of what film is available. 5x7, 13x18cm and half-plate are all pretty much the same, but unfortunately not all films are made in all sizes. I know where I can get reasonably priced half-plate filmholders (approx 4.75x6.5 inches) but I believe I can only buy 1 film that size in the UK and that is NP22 from Retrophotographic.

Now it may be a perfectly fine film (I haven't tried it) but I'm then totally reliant on that company importing it in future, whereas the same company stocks Ilford FP4+, HP5+, Adox 25, 50 & 100, and Rollei R3 in 5x7. As far as 5x8 goes, I'm not aware of that as a size of filmholder at all.
