I picked up a beautiful black Spotmatic a few years back and no longer need this chrome SPII.
The chrome finish shows numerous scuff marks though there are few real scratches. The controls work smoothly. Shutter speeds sound accurate to my ear, but they haven’t been tested. The meter works and matches up well with my Gossen Luna Pro-F. Mirror foam was replaced a few years back. The mirror looks to be perfect. View through the viewfinder is good with only one dust spec visible. Self timer works.
The SMC 50/1.4 has excellent glass. Minimal cleaning marks, no fungus with only the hint of some internal haze. The lens, containing thorium, has yellowed, which gives a warm look when looking through the viewfinder. The lens focusing action is notchy. As you focus, there’s a distinct “slop zone” you focus through. The lens does focus properly, just don’t expect a smooth-focusing action. The aperture blades show no oil, stop down perfectly, but can stick in the stopped-down position after the picture is taken, though they do open back up after a few seconds, or if you tap the lens.
The camera has definitely been used over the past 40+ years, but it still takes good pics. I just don’t need two Spotmatics.
Priced to sell at $35.00.
Shipping: US $20.00. Elsewhere, TBD.
