I don't get it;never had a problem telling which was the emulsion side. The darkroom light does not reflect on the back side. Have you waited until your eyes are fully dark-light adopted?

I studied the issue very carefully last night as i was burning through paper in an attempt to make more prints.

I went through 5 sheets of adox 8x10 VC RC semi matte paper. I used the suggestions here and burnt through paper.

1. 1st sheet i pulled out turned out to be upside down.
2. 2nd sheet i flipped it over when i pulled it out, still ended up emulsion side down
3. 3rd sheet i flipped the orientation was upside down
4. flipped the package over and sheet was upside down.
5. took my piece of focusing paper next to the safelight and compared its shine at various angles with a fresh sheet of paper, I felt the "sheen" was the same and the paper ended up being emulsion on top on the easel, print was a tad to high in contrast.

The sheets that ended up, upside down on the easel, after developing they had an identical feeling on the sides. But the emulsion side on all of my properly exposed photos have a roughness after developing.

Processing in the sort of chemistry you're using (i.e. Eco Pro dev & stop & fix) or indeed virtually any sort of regular B&W chemistry will not affect how the surface of the paper feels. On either side.

So have you formulated a plan of what sort of action or actions you now need to take to improve or solve your problem and if so what is it that you plan to try?
