Hi,

Is ORWO going to fulfill its obligations and send the purchased film rolls?

I finally got at least a response, if not film, from them. They are "currently working on dealing with a huge back log of orders and will ship my order... soon".

In December, 2022 they announced that they will ship the orders "immediately". A month and a half later they obviously downgraded the urgency of shipping stuff to their buyers to "soon", but at least this is some sort of a sign that they are not completely dead yet.

Communicatively, ORWO is a failure. Unfortunately

I sent the money last July but haven't received it yet.

The last time I got a reply was last November.

There's no reply.

I have been waiting for my order as well. I emailed them two weeks ago and did not hear back. However, today USPS notified me that a package is coming from Orwo this Saturday.

Did it help that I emailed them again, or was it a coincidence? I don't know, but I hope this means you all will soon be receiving yours too.

I got a notice my order is out for delivery today.

Been 8 months, I forgot what I had even ordered. Maybe I'll shoot a roll this weekend.

They are weird wonky casettes. I've never seen any like them before. They definitely look like they're multi-part and snap together, and they're a little beefy when fitting them into a camera. So is that them?

Those "snap together" cassettes were used in non branded single use cameras for a few years now.
From a lab's point of view they were awkward to break open. You couldn't use a bottle opener like with a normal 35mm film cassette. The easiest way to open them was to put the handle of the bottle opener through the cassette light trap and twist. The plastic could be very sharp.

There's an announcement at Orwo's site from December that 'ORWO photographic stock will now be packaged in an eco-friendly plastic packaging which can be recycled' (whereas steel is so hard to recycle..?) - is this what they are talking about?

Great to see that people are finally getting their film. I also emailed them a while ago, but nothing yet, so emailing them might've not played a part in your case.

Can you check where your film was sent from? Since they also started selling NC500 in USA through their distributors before they even shipped preorders I suspect that they sent a bunch (all?) of film to USA and they are shipping USA preorders from USA and not from UK or Germany...

They shipped from Freestyle, so they definitely sent to the local distributor who is divvying it up into the orders.

just because I am stubborn, I found that if you use a flat pry tool, you can lift the "latch" that holds the end together, and then swing the cassette open. I actually bought some "empty" ones from E-bay and found that the seller had used developed C-41 negatives to put the cassette together. Those empty ones I could prod in the light and find where to pry. the ones with live film you of course have to do taht sort of nonsense in the dark. Besides Flic Film, I also had some Double X packed by a chinese seller as "CineStyle"

Still about half of them I ended up breaking off the Latch part of the end.

Note that if you want to open that style please note that many of them have a label over the split. that has to be peeled, or cut away so the two halves will come open.

When Flic Film first started up, they had a mention of a tool called a "Flic Pick" which was a jig that pushed a pin into all 4 sites needed to pry teh cassette open. you would close the tool with the cassette indide and pry up the open side. when I enquired they said the tool was discontinued as the tools that they had were prone to breakage.

I am assuming form the picture that these are the same style.

This is what the end of the casette looks like. I haven't peeled off a label or anything, but it's obviously snap together.

yep, that is the style. the large end of the spool is held by the lower layer of the end, and you have to lift the flap in each side off the pins that hold it to get the two haves to come apart... note the opening to allow the large end of the spool to disengage from the half that comes loose.

you have to do the prying in the dark of course.

Sounds like it used to be a lot easier to order ORWO film direct from FilmoTec by email, invoice, wire transfer. It was shipped within a few days after payment made it through. But that was only bulk film, no pre-loaded options.

I don’t want to be arrested by the feared PGP (Photrio Grammar Police), but in the case of ORWO, I believe “finally” is the more accurate adverb 😉

I don't know if you've been following ORWO threads here but a lot of us are waiting for delivery on film we paid for in July, 2022. Someone who waited a _whole_ month for delivery does not get to use word "finally". That's "immediately" in ORWO speak. Orders from July 2022 are delayed. Slightly.

I had ordered a 100'roll of 35mm P400 V3 film and they mistakenly sent an unperforated roll. I notified them of that and they sent me a proper perforated roll from Germany (FilmoTec) quite quickly so no complaints from me. The jury is still out on the quality of this film but it is extremely curly longitudinally and trying to find a proper film speed/developing time as the box speed is not the best. There is not a lot of information this new film like a Data sheet or Processing.
