Orwo N74 Plus and Orwo UN 54 films

They are very nice films. Classical B+W looks from them will make you a good darkroom printer.

I prefer to print them on MCC 110*

It's a motion picture stock (think 24 frames per second). Better lubrication, less shedding and better anti-static properties ARE a definite plus...

I have only shot 100' of the UN54 and I am about to order some more.
Times I have used were: Rodinal 1:50 for 8 minutes.
Rodinal 1:100 for 40 mins or 1 hr stand to give 80 or 160 ASA. Agitation first 30 sec only.
Kodak D76 1+1 for 7 minutes.
Ilfosol 3 dil 1+14 for 6 minutes.

I haven't used any of the N74.

When I was ordering the first 100' I asked whether the film was an artefact of the former VEB Filmfabrik Wolfen of the DDR.
They said that it was not.

Developing it with Pyrocat HDC 1-1-100/200 gave some good prints but the availability of the film in North America has caused me to search other brands of film. Orwo NA seems like they only stock single rolls for a hefty price and not the bulk 100'-400' rolls that I was used to. Does anyone know where I could find 100' rolls in Canada?

the North American guy seems to not keep his web site up to date.. also the long rolls are under Cinematography films. I just ordered a 400Ft N74, and when I asked him when he was going to have some some in as it had not shown on the web site, he actually wrote back and said he had a roll and sent me a paypal invoice. Try writing at "ORWO Film" <info@orwona.com> and ask Mr. Campbell when he can provide you with some. the UN54 is shown at the moment at $60 for 100ft, $190 for 400ft and $470 for 1000ft. Not much advantage in price for the 1000ft roll.

They have been saying that they are working on a better e-commerce and shipping system.

Thanks for the tip. Did that and now I have another 400' of UN54 on its way. If I have a favorite developer/film combination Pyrocat HDC/Orwo UN54 would be it.

Did a fair amount of N74 but did not like the outcome. Never did find a good developer for N74 but the one I like for UN54 is the 1-1-200 HDC semistand @ 40min. A good post I found here on APUG is: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

They are not cheap. Last time I have asked for a quote and I got €52 (including shipping + 19% VAT).

Here's one on N74 from last week, I find it benefits from a mild yellow filter.

Developer is D76H modified formula two bath 5 mins in A then 5mins in B, cont.agitation (gentle inversions of a 5 tank Paterson not cocktail making)

The reason I saw this post is I shot my last 25' of the "Super Cine-X" Regular-8 (Tri-X) this morning for X-mas. I had a chance to use my f0.9 Switar. Form here on out it is Foma. I checked J Schwind's site and see the UN54 is out of stock. I never had a chance to use it. I wonder if it will ever come back.
