Oriental GF graded paper

When I went to B&H last week, I saw Oriental GF graded papers on the shelf. I use Oriental G. The salesman did not know the difference between GF and G.

Is GF a replacement of G? Is it a different emulsion or just a different name?

The Seagull site http://www.orientalphotousa.com does not note a GF paper, only the graded G. Did B&H have a large supply of Seagull papers? The reason I ask is Adorama does not seem to be carrying it any longer.

GF I believe is the replacement for the G. G is no longer made. As for the difference, I do not know, tho I did hear that there were 'changes'. I would guess that they would look identical or be so similar as not to matter.

I have been using G and GF graded papers. I buy from Freestyle and when I recieve it even though I order as Grade 2, 3 and 4 of the G paper it comes with Grade 2-G, Grade3-GF and Grade4-G. When I print on G2 and need to go up a grade for contrast and go to a Grade3-GF I do notice a significant difference in the two papers. The GF-3 is a warm tone paper and even warmer if you selenium tone as it tends to take the selenium better. Oriental is one of the worst with information on their graded fiber papers there is and their web site is no imporvement. If you read the data on the box they read exactly the same and the sheet in the boxes are the same. I have not a clue what they are doing. Good luck.

In Japan, G has gone last year and GF come. GF is totaly different from G. G was very controlable paper works well in Lith printing. GF can not be pushed, can not be lith printed. I did love G but now for me, Oriental's gone.

I doubt Oriental know what they are doing either.

Unfortunately my recent experiences with Oriental have convinced me of a very poor standard of their products and their customer service. So I'm in no way suprised that you have seen such a change between G and GF with NO accompanying indication in the product sheet.

Not only have they lost adequate quality control of their photographic papers (partly due to the fact that they don't manufacture them anymore - another company does for them), but their representatives either don't reply to questions, or they don't appear to care much for the problems that they have caused you.
