I am retired from a career in optical physics (MS Physics), specifically in
vacuum tube devices and before that in high power gas lasers.

I spent a few years a few decades ago playing with 4x5 and 35 mm and
self taught myself from the Ansel Adams books; most memorably "The Negative"

That 4x5 was all sold.

I kept a pristine old Nikon F with the 55 mm Micro-Nikkor; magnificent lens.

I just bought, used, a Mamyia 7II and 80, 150 mm lenses.

Recently got a Schneider 150 mm Componon-S with minor "schneideritis.

I'll be posting my technical views shortly; summarily, my experience says
that for a price consumers are willing to pay, it is amazing that lens are as
good as they are!

Now teaching high school AP Physics in the USA and having a ball!

Welcome!

But, what is "schneideritis"? And, can it be cured?

Welcome from near Washington, DC. Another former Keystone Stater. Go Phillies.
Perhaps you can tell me what lens I need to buy so my pixtures are always purrfect every time.

Welcome!!
It will be a great relief to have someone with coherent knowledge of Optical Physics - or is it Physical Optics ...? Possibly you can help me explain the relation (or lack of a singular relation) between "diffraction limitation" and f/stop...
Anyway, welcome, from a veteran of optical Bench (remember them?) work.

Welcome.

"But, what is "schneideritis"? And, can it be cured?"

I guess the answer to that would be: It depends on which Schneider it was caught from. :surprised::D

But, what is "schneideritis"?

Adhesive de-lamination in Shneider made lenses (my Calumet Caltar 360mm 6.8 has it for instance) - doesn't affect image at all perceptibly...

Heh heh - for whatever reason the best example I can find online isn't a Shneider  (X-Pan - Fuji ?)

As i understand it, it's a problem with the black paint in the mount.

With a background in optics, and now teaching high school, have you ever played around with the winlens program? There is a somewhat crippled but still very powerful free version of the program available for download.
