Is this still a thread about Oppenheimer?After seeing the film version at IMAX I’ll be looking forward to seeing it on the small screen in my home. It was a good film but the IMAX experience was not for me. The resolution and detail of the projected film though - wow.
I wasn't sure what IMAX was when this thread started and had to look it up. Pretty cool technology. A friend who travels a bunch and goes to lots of movies told me that this film was really good in IMAX. I asked where he was when he saw it and he said here. Huh? I didn't know we had an IMAX theater here. Who knew? I guess I was confusing IMAX with OMNI theaters, that latter which I saw in St. Paul, MN a couple decades ago.
I belive that the idea of IMAX was that the screen would be your entire field of view. At least that was the idea when the CineSphere at Ontario Place first opened with IMAX projector serial number 0012/3rds of the way back in the theater is supposed to be the sweet spot; the way the cinematographer saw it.
That is, if the old rules for theater construction were followed...

yes, there were LOTS of "Venue" IMAX films made, using the format for Features is something that the Nolan generation has invented.The IMAX theater in Dayton, Ohio on Wright-Patterson AFB plays a film called, "Fighter Pilot: Operation Red Flag" that has the sensitive ones fleeing the theater with motion sickness...
