When I look at my privates there appears to be a severe case of barrell distortion. :O

No, your wife said that it is not barrel distortion; it has pincushion distortion with massive shrinkage.

Lets be clear. Do you mean lens barrel distortion or central core body barrel distortion?

I'm not really sure. It seems that my mirror has developed the same problem.

Yeah, well your wife said all you've got is a Minox and you've run out of film.:D

I dumped the old bag over 13 years ago. I got a much new model with much less mileage. Thin, great figure, and wants to please. In the ten years that we have been together we have never had a fight. She is taller than me. Any woman will tell you why a woman will stay with a shorter man. If you do not know why, ask a woman.

When I am thinking about buying more photography equipment or a major modification on my off-road vehicle, she says, "You worked your life earning money for others. Now it is your turn. If you want it and you will enjoy it then just go ahead and buy it."

Congrats Steve, I'm glad you were able to upgrade.
How much does she charge per hour?

Good for you. Don't let her get away.

Mine's real high-class stuff, but I charge her for the privelege of hanging around me.

BTW, I got full custody of the two children. The ex got my dog. My attorney objected that the dog should not have to be with the ex because of the Eighth Amendment protections. The judge said that the prohibition against cruel and usual punishment did not apply to property or animals.

Wow, that's a sad story. Poor dog, do you know if she was cruel to it?
I know why you need a case of tequila to DELETE her from your memory.

Wait, what thread is this?

You can figure that out. Both the children did not want to be with her and did not want to have a time scheduled for them to be with her.

Now back to the thread topic, please.

OK. Back to the thread. From all the responses, I think that analog photography requires more forethought, skill with and knowledge of materials, anticipation and patience. I'm just as guilty as other photographers using digital cameras with it's previews and histograms. Though it's convenient, I think these conveniences take away some old fashioned skills and virtues needed for a great shot. Again, I use digital cameras, but for my art, I prefer using film. Holding a piece of film whether it be a negative or a transparency is really something tangible of my work. A file icon on my computer or pixels on the screen isn't the same for me. Don't know how other APUGer's feel about that.

I am an analog photographer because my Leica is analog. If one day they make a camera with same lens , ergonomics and result and price , I would buy it , why not ? For me it is the feel , look , results and ergonomy. I wish they do a better camera than mine with same 60 dollars and unlimited cell power and I buy it. But today even 35000 dollars Leica results horrible , I can never accept it. Well , forum takes more of my time than photography and expense is hard for me. I have lots of debit to university and I stucked at home. I am photographing the photography from my narrow living zone , thats all.

I have to admit that I shoot both, but I lean on the analog side. I noticed one joy that analog photography offers that digital photography doesn't. It's the joy of anticipation.

i agree, its nice not to know. i've film that i don't remember where i was or when i exposed it ready to process. it will be nice to see.
but on the other hand it is easy to turn off the display ( or ignore it) or just look at the 1st exposure ( as if it was 1984 and it was a polaroid )
and make a dozen or 2 or 4 exposures and not look at anything until 3 or 4 months later or hour or whatever. i often use a dslr and just expose like
it was film, and i sometimes shoot 15 rolls of 120 film as if i had a memory card.

Personally I find that all photography has a sense of anticipation, but it comes down to a matter of details as to the nature of the anticipation.

I have a handful of film waiting on me getting around to developing it to see how things turned out, but the 'waiting to see what you really got' is not actually limited to my film work I've found. Sure, I can press a button on my digital camera and see an image. I can glance at some data, but it is hardly a tool to truly view the results, but merely a hint at what is actually there. And if I'm out shooting sports or something, well, I don't have time to stand there thumbing through photos. I might take the moment to flag a photo out of a burst of images that had 'something special' happen to make sure I don't forget to highlight it later when sharing with the players, but beyond that the LCD stays off.

There is something rather special about sitting down with a cup of good coffee and sorting through a set of images. Being able to sit there and slowly explore an image in even greater detail than what you did at the time you were taking it. Finding the small details or elements that will show in a print or on the screen and seeing whether or not they show up as you expected or if you have some surprises is wonderful, regardless of capture media used.

Ansel Adams frequently shot polaroid previews before making his final images, was he chimping?
Is evaluating a histogram thoughtfully really that much different than using a spot meter and the zone system?

Far too often, these digital v. analog threads involve comparisons of "serious" photographers shooting analog vs. common photographers shooting digital.

OK, call me slow. I did wonder for a while until I finally looked this up:
Chimping:
What one does after taking a picture with a digital camera and looking at the result. Derived from the words they speak when chimping: "Ooo-oo-oo!"
(Made me laff my arse off).

So, what's that reaction when you see your print appear in the developer in the darkroom?
I don't think it was a chimp-like experience.

Yet another bit of terminology I loathe brought to you by people who want to feel better than others. Looking at the back of the camera when you should be paying attention to what's happening around you -- a mistake -- if you don't want to miss something; looking at the histogram to gauge exposure and the image to make sure the framing was correct -- great -- that's one of the advantages of a digital camera. What kind of misguided sense of pride keeps a person from using the tools available to better their work?

So, you thought, "gee, we don't have enough d vs a threads", and decided to dredge one up from six years ago?

There were a number of interesting comments in this thread however, so I consider it worth the read even if it is an old one. Rather doubt most of the user's opinions have changed since it was started, but who knows?

i didn't really see it as a DvA thread but a thread about interests.
its too bad suggesting one doesnt' have to look at a screen when it is available is a difficult subject

Both are boring, when not printing.

*teegital is less labour intensive, an advantage but a boring one.
