Glad if it can help you!

I am part of a Dakroom printers' FB group in Japanese that has extremely helpful members. They were the ones pointing me to the right direction.

Just search FB for this "銀塩ウェットプロセス・モノクロ写真"

Ben

Thanks again Ben!

I think Photo Engineer has recommended making the BZAT solution in an alcohol for best storage too...don't quote me on that...so in that case you wouldn't need water at all. You would just use the ethyl or isopropyl alcohol, or propylene glycol. The Darkroom Cookbook uses hot water in its recipe but I'm not sure how long it lasts that way. I don't think it decomposes rapidly in water but I know it lasts years and years in alcohol/glycol.

You could start with pretty close to the final volume of liquid unless you are mixing a large quantity, because a couple grams isn't going to change the volume much.

Thanks!

So you are saying that benzotriazole is hard to dissolve in water unless it's very hot?
I do have 99% isopropyl alcohol so I could try that. Just a few drops?
Or should I just perhaps heat some filtered water up to a boil or just before and then dissolve the powder?
Also usually when I mix developers I add 700ml of water and once all mixed I fill to a liter. Same procedure here?

Thanks,
Benn

Thanks for everything - its all clear now and I'll repost with my success (or else failure..).

Ben

p.s. I've taken this thread sort of out of context - apologies for that. I'll also repost on what I manage to do with the stuck paper.

And just as I was about to celebrate - the chemical firm sent me a note saying that there was an error in their inventory system and as they went to fetch the bottle from the shelf, there was no stock and nothing is expected anytime soon.

I just placed an order with B&H in New York and it'll take an estimated 3-4 weeks to get here. 2 weeks for them to source it and then a week worth of shipping.

More on this later...

You'll find their pricelist at the Moersch site.

Thank you - I found them and their price list - good selection indeed.
Shipping to Japan would kill it though and thankfully i found another local supplier here in Japan.

@mooseontheloose Do you mind adding this to the Japan Group you created? This is another Chemical vendor it seems:

Thanks,

p.s. I just asked for a quotation from them and will post back here on their terms - delivery etc.

You can also look for Edwal Liquid Orthazite, which is BZAT in (sulfite?) solution

Hello,

Just to update this piece of information - the company now came back to me saying they don't deal with amateurs - sell only to companies.

While at it - another gentleman from that Facebook group of Monochrome printers in Japan suggested that I could try a normal pharmacy as well. He did it and it worked for him - posted some pictures of his purchase to my thread there on FB. He did say it was hard to convince the pharmacy what he needed it for before it was approved and I am not sure my Japanese would be good enough to have a debate with a pharmacists about chemicals  Not sure my English or Hungarian would be good enough either...

Will update as I find more - meanwhile my B&H order is processing.

I found the seller on Ebay too - should have looked there earlier.
Anyways, my B&H order now says "In stock, order sent to warehouse" so I hope I'll have it before Christmas.

I also have Ilford paper, not the ilfobrom but some MGFB Multigrade 20x24 sheets from the early 2000's. The paper is totally useless although I am not sure how it was kept. The Forte paper I have from the 90's is like new, no fog or anything. It was kept in an underground storage so I guess it was well stored. The ones from the 70's or 80's in Yellow boxes show slight fogging and I hope the BZAT magic will work on them!

In general, how good is BZAT? I mean - can it do magic and revive a paper that's badly fogged or it will only bring paper back slightly?

Thanks,
Ben

If you have paper which has light yellow edges after the normal development tim: BZAT will prevent this.

If you are not lucky with your ebay BZAT: You may buy it from photoimpex. There shop has english pages.

There are other vendors in Germany. You have to search for Restrainer.

Thank you Uwe - I just got the confirmation from B&H that the package has finally shipped so I am hoping I won't need to buy this for a while. A 100gramms should last me a long time!

Also - since B&H carries the Photographers Formulary product it should actually be working without a doubt.

I'll post back!

Back to the original question: how did you get those sheets unstuck.
So far (unlees I missed something) we only learned about that yellow stain.

You are right - I haven't attempted to recover the stuck sheets. I'll do so soon and report back.

Thanks for the reminder,
Ben
