Odd Hassy Question for repair man.

Ok so here is the question, I use a 500cm but not for the normal reasons, I use it for moving wildlife. Most of the time I am shooting at infinity and don't have to focus. I am totally shooting with the sports finder for all of this, so focusing is not needed. The only problem with the 500cm is the sound of it. I would like to remove the mirror and aux shutter in the back of the camera, ( yes I know I would have to put the dark slide in after ever shot to wind the film and shutter). Would it be possible to remove those and still beable to wind he film and cock the shutter?

The way you are using it, it would probably be easier to get a Mamiya C220 or C330 interchangable lens TLR. There are lenses up to 250mm and the cameras aren't all that expensive.

Why not explore the sound blimp for the Blad, it would be far cheaper than butchering a perfectly good camera. Victor H. was an avid wildlife photographer and he had the "stuff" made to help him get better photos.

Not possible. Without the back doors, what's going to protect the film while the shutter cycles? Are you willing to have every Hasselblad lens you own disabled?

That's why I said I would put the dark slide in after the exposure. Even If i could just remove the mirror would help the noise.

Best case I would buy a broken parts camera And do this too it. I would not do it to a perfectly working camera. It would also be a backup body.

You're also going to have to stop the lens down before removing the dark slide. It wouldn't be impossible, maybe not even difficult just to figure out hat you need removed.
You can eliminate the rear curtain noise by prefiring the camera (black rectangle near wind knob).
Actually by pre firing it the only noise is after the shot is taken when the flaps and mirror move to the start position.

I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind your question. If the wildlife you are shooting are already moving, why are you concerned with the noise your camera makes?

If your objective is stealth, then as others have suggested, you should buy a quieter camera. Maybe a rangefinder?

The Hasselblad makes a unique sound that is part of the camera's charm. Wanting to shoot a Hasselblad without hearing its sound is, well, just wrong!

I expect it could be done but I suspect it would still make more noise than you want. The MK version did not have mirror or body shutter they came out of the space program. In space no one can hear you scream or use a Hasselblad.

The noise has been scaring some animals that were standing. Fox, coyote and deer can hear very good.

By the time they react to the sound, the photograph has been taken. Buy a sound blimp.

Not at all cjbecker, buy an ELM body. It will do everything you need and more and they are available at a very reasonable price.

Having just re-read the thread, if you already shoot with the sportsfinder which I should have noticed and omitted to mention in my post, shoot in the mirror up mode. The difference is, although the subject is unlikely to be alerted by the sound of a blade shutter, the ELM would be faster to follow the action than manual winding if it was disturbed, and yes, I would still use a blimp.
