As a teenager I wanted the Bronica S in the worst way, however the Bronica is not as well built as the Hasselblad, bulkier and harder to hold.

Bronica S needed refinements, EC was a brilliant follow up. Still chunkier and heavier than than Hasselblad, if we don’t take lens into account.

Hasselblad lives in its own world, this can be appreciated, and it seems hard core endorsers have ... hard time accepting any view that dulls down that glow in the slightest.

I suggest that is because the "others" are simply lesser cameras, compromises in form and function, although I do like the Pentax 67 and C330 as other useful tools, if I ever have the funds to spare finding and fitting either out.

That said, I still need to find another late model 500CM, an 500elx or similar Hasselblad and a Super Wide, since 50mm is as wide as I'd want to use on a 500 V series camera.

That puts the two alternative systems into the other multi-verses and I do no mind at all

And that is the problem with all these Hasselblad threads, "the others" are hardly "lesser".

A thread starts, even this one where I tried in original post (admittedly without holding much hope) to kill the "bitchn' on Hasselblad" interpretation, and one can't stop thinking somebody else's "perfect" girlfriend must also be perfect for everyone else.

I'm not taking this thread into "why and where others have done better than Hasselblad" in some areas, they have. But would it be possible to prove that? Of course not, as a proof to be accepted, one needs to approach it with an open mind, and that seem impossible for any hard core Hasselblad follower.

All in all, I think it is the Hasselblad admirers are more of a problem in these threads, than Hasselblad itself. It is after all, a very fine photographic tool - in its own right. Like it, keep it. Not sure ? - try a different brand.

As an amateur I've owned several Hasselblads with several lenses and never had a problem with any of them.
The HC4 finder made the camera easy to use at eye level. But the camera, two backs backs and three lenses were a pain to carry around because of the weight.

When Kodak discontinued Kodachrome in 120 size I stopped using the camera and eventually sold most of the kit.
A miniature Crown Graphic with 65mm & 100mm lenses is good enough now for my needs in medium format.

Not true. Not everything is perfect with Hasselblads.

Let me first congrat you for having this wonderful kit. A 2006 503CW, like new, with 50 and 150 CFi lenses. You should never ever give this one away. Maybe sell off some stuff you do not need to fund a 100 CFi and you´ll have a dream kit. Regarding the noise, I know what you mean. Maybe you should try a 201F. The cloth shuttered Hasselblads are way quieter and also feature an instant return mirror. You can use your lenses on these too, just the other way round it is not possible.

I say "lesser" as in less usable/capable cameras system, as I've used or handled other Medium Format SLRs.

On the whole, the larger sized competition to the 500CM, are too often unwieldy to hand, difficult to load larger magazines, dependent on electrical charges, even the 500 ELM, and other motorized Hasselblads, which is why I want a second 500 CM as a backup (a 500Ccould serve too).

The range of formats in backups are ideal, and, the seals are an easy fix for the owner.

The Lens system in the "V" series is very capable and though there are Zeiss lenses for other medium SLR cameras, I feel the Hasselblad lenses are all encompassing.

Other SLRs are fine, for those that like and use them, and possible feel the same way as I do the Hasselblad, but other than the Pentax 67, I find that they, as tools to hand, to give lesser overall abilities when compared to the 500 CM, period.

I do no include those person's that like and use other systems, they are in no way "lesser" for their choices in any way, no are their photographs.

There is a huge difference in my and others preference for Hasselblad analog kit, for their performance and those that bash others for daring to own something else, that Hasselblad, in that the only interesting cameras for many of us are the ways we can use them, as tools, no as status symbols' as an impossible to educate minority of HB owners, etc promote them to others.

I've always wished there was a fast motordrive for the Pentax 67--load it with 220 film hold the shutter down and it would sound like a galloping horse for a few seconds.

May the participants allow me to direct the thread back to a more objective level. We do not want to spoil the experience of a new Hasselblad user by a heated debate. I completely understand the issue. Preferences are a personal thing when it comes to cameras and the flap of the aux shutter is quite different from most other types of cameras, although regarded as iconic by many Hasselblad users. As I said, there is a solution if you want to stay with the Hasselblad system but prefer a smoother sound. This would the 200 series Hasselblads and especially the 201F. This one lacks the metering and is therefore the least expensive model of the 200 series. The 2000 series has a metal shutter that has a somewhat harsh and metallic sound too, although still quieter than the 500 series. The 200 series´ cloth shutter is by far the smoothest and quietest. Shopping may take some patience and I would keep the 503CW as a backup camera.
