I am just a hobbyist that resurected some old Spotmatics and a K1000. I started shooting a bunch of B&W earlier this year after moving to San Diego. I have been in the hardware side of IT for over 20 years (sigh) and try to keep the rest of my life more "analog" so film photography just fit right in.

I stumbled on APUG while reading and researching about developing E-6 films in B&W chemistry (after recently ending up with several hundred feet of Ektachrome for free). Looks like there is plenty of good stuff to pick up on here so I figured I would actually sign up and not just be a lurker.

rusty - welcome to APUG from western Massachusetts. I visit the San Diego area occasionally (might be out there this Christmas), beautiful area.

Welcome aboard! Nice place to be located. (My commute takes me through Mira Mesa daily, as it happens.)

Thanks for the welcome messages

It isn't a bad area (I am over near Camino Santa Fe & Mira Mesa Blvd) - it is a rental that the company that hired my fiance found for us before we moved down from Seattle. We are starting to house shop now and look at some of the houses more towards the 805 though.

I like it here on the north side of everything with all the open space canyon preserves and beaches within a short drive.

Welcome aboard, The San Diego area is a great place to photograph. I like going down to the waterfront to photograph both the boats and the people. Balboa Park is fun, too.

Balboa is fun - once I figured out that every Tuesday they have a few of the museums open for free at Balboa we have been going down pretty regular, I like the botanical garden there too. Plus we have been taking my little VW down to the Breakfast at Balboa car meets every couple months.

Have you been out to Anza-Borrego yet? Neat place to photograph, but equally a neat place to just play in. Especially with a bug; as you probably know, those things can go places that you'd think no one with prudence would ever take a 2WD vehicle.

We went out earlier this year when all the flowers were blooming with a car full of ladies from my fiance's work - it was nice but I am not into the macro flower stuff. So while they all were shooting digital flower pictures I went scrambling over boulders and gullies with the one other guy there.

My bug is not a desert bug - I have 2.5" dropped spindles, a narrowed adjustable beam, and a sway bar in the front - meaning the front end is VERY LOW. It is more of a cruising the beach and car meets bug.

It looks like there are several S.D. members on here, are there any get together type things?
