Hi James,

Thanks for organizing this get-together. Just recapping the details so nobody has to search through all the posts:
JamesG said:
Mark your calendars for Sunday, 21 May beginning at 10 a.m. at the Prallsville Mills complex in Stockton, NJ. It is three miles north of Lambertville, NJ/New Hope, PA and approximately 10 miles north of I-95 and not too far from I-78, I-295, I-195, US 1, NJ 31, NJ 12, and just a mile from US 202. We will most likely be able to photograph inside the Mill as well as the outside of the Mill and the various other buildings in the complex. The Delaware River Mill Society will not be charging us for the use of the complex, but we should plan on making a donation. I will pass the hat during the day for that purpose.

If there is interest, we can have some presentations or informal instruction on the use of large format cameras. This event is open to all APUG members and all film formats. If you have always wanted to learn more about medium and large formats, now is the time.

I can also have one or two models present if anyone wants to do portraiture. Any photograpjher who wants to use a model, should we decide to have one or more present, will be responsible for a financial renumeration to the model. Models would only be present if there is a definite interest. No interest... no models.

I will come up with other ideas for the day as we get closer. I will post those ideas here in the forum. Any questions??? please ask. Thanks.
Looks like we'll have a good turnout as well:

It's looking like I can't make this one. I've got friends coming in from out of town that day.

Hmmm...

I've been running around like a "chicken with its head cut off" for the past couple of weeks and haven't been able to check in much with APUG. I'd really like to make this meet-up, but can't commit at this point. I'll be out on assignment again this week (a shoot in Miami), but with any luck, I'll get back in time to participate.

One of these days, if I'm lucky, things will slow down a bit at work...

I should add...

Art, since Dave said he won't be there, if it turns out I can make it, I'll bring a 4X5 for you.

Everything is a "go" for Sunday, the 21st. Although I had planned on a 10 a.m. start, I will be there earlier putting cones out in front of the mill so we can keep it free of cars. If anyone wants to arrive earlier than 10, that is fine.

Experienced LFers would, hopefully, be willing to do some show-n-tell for those who attend and are not familiar with the format. If you bring some Polaroid film and are willing to share, there is no reason to do it for free, as a sheet of Polaroid is now above the $3.00 mark. I will explain to participants that they should be willing to cover film costs of those who are good enough to provide their cameras and some instruction.

Also, feel free to bring and distribute any useful information or flyers that may be of interest. It may also be a good idea to make up a name tag and wear it for the day. When I was at the NE get-together in March at Springfield, someone made available APUG name tags - Bob Fowler, was this you? If this can be done for this event and someone is capable of doing so, please do it. Thanks.

Bring a lot of film and ideas. Please share. Let's have a good time and a productive one.

I will confirm again with the Mill Society that everything is in place for us to be there. As of three weeks ago, it had all been arranged.

E-mail with any questions, ideas, or concerns: jgphotography@att.net My new studio phone number, being installed tomorrow, 5/16, is 908-996-2484 and FAX will be 908-996-3009.

If anyone wants to meet up the night before, I'll be staying at the Hampton Inn in Flemington, NJ. I should be there by 3 or 4pm on Saturday.

Regards, Art.

I have a photo shoot in South Jersey on Saturday, but could be back by 7 or 8 p.m., possibly earlier if I get an early starty in the morning. I can then meet with anyone who is interested. We could hang out in my studio in Frenchtown and get some good Italian food one short block away.

BTW, some good shots to be had in Frenchtown.

Since you mentioned I-84, I would suggest the following:

I-84
to
I-684
to
I-287 (W)
to
Garden State Parkway (enter NJ)
to
I-80 (E, towards NYC)
to
I-95 (S), aka, NJ Turnpike (S)
to
I-195 (W) --- exit 7A on NJ Turnpike (S)
to
NJ-129
to
NJ-29 (N)

Alternatively, you could take I-95 from I-87 after I-684, but this route goes through the city and I would avoid it. Also, please note that the Garden State Parkway (GSP) and the NJ Turnpike are toll roads. NJ EZPass works in MA, so I guess the reverse is true as well.

The Prallsville Mills is in the town of Stockton, and is located on NJ-29 (N) a little way beyond Lambertville. You should watch out for a tall red building (see attachment).

Note: NJ-29 turns left into downtown Lambertville. Make sure you do not miss this turn (not easy to miss), or else you will end up on NJ-179.

Hope you have a safe trip.

Regards,

This is really the long way. Great if one would want to see a not-so-nice part of NJ. It's about 30 miles longer than the directions I had given earlier. Not very direct...

Great to have you on board. I will have an extra 4x5 camera along for you to use your Polaroid film.

See you Sunday.

That may be so, but I gave the route that I am familiar with. Nobody had posted an answer to the question, so I ventured a reply. Maybe you can post better directions instead of merely saying so - I didn't see any in the thread.

Gentlemen (and ladies, in case I missed you) -
A few last minute considerations -
I gave out some directions through PM's and phone calls to those who needed them, but there is a change, I-78 Clinton Exit 15 is closed for repairs. Get off at Exit 16, NJ31 South. Take NJ31 to its intersection with US202. Continue on US202 South to NJ29. Go North one mile to mill complex on left. The entrance is at the far end of the complex; the first driveway is the exit.
I reconfirmed with the Mill Society yesterday (Thurs.) and yes, we can photograph inside. There will be a docent giving historical tours, so we will have to limit photographers to one or two at a time inside when the docent is actually giving a tour. You definitely want to photograph in the basement, but will need Tungsten film if shooting color.
My photo shoot for tomorrow has not been confirmed. If I do not have a shoot, I will be working in the studio all day and will be available to get together with anyone who is in the area for dinner and chit-chat. My studio is at 108 Harrison Street, 2nd Floor in Frenchtown, 12 miles north of Stockton on NJ29. It is also accessible from Flemington by going west on NJ12 to the end. Studio phone is 908-996-2484 and my cell is 732-735-2597.
Robert Triffen is going to Calumet today and can pick up any supplies if anyone needs them. Call him 610-449-7853 and arrange for what you need.
I will be at the Mill about 8 a.m. if anyone wants to come early. Let me know.
Little chance for rain tomorrow. Awesome!!!!
I will update later today or tomorrow as necessary.

And also Calumet has some just expired Kodak tungsten 4X5 sheet film for half the price. I think is around 50 bucks for a 50 sheet box.

I will see you guys there. Have a safe trip.

If anyone has an extra piece of 4x5 ground glass that they can lend me for tomorrow, I would appreciate it. Mine is broken. Thanks - Jim
