Worth remembering that Digital ICE doesn't work with conventional black & white films. I guess one of the reasons some photographers like chromogenic mono films like ILFORD XP2 Super.

Don't mean to argue, but Digital Ice works perfectly with all sorts of classic B&W films, such as HP3, HP4, ancient Dupont various Fuji.

I do not understand. Does ICE work with only some B&W emulsions and not others?
It should not work with any B/W film that uses silver halides because these silver crystals block the IR scan pas used by Digital ICE.

On B/W film with silver, the IR scan looks like a scan made in visible light. VueScan doesn't even let you use IR/ICE when you select 'B/W negative'

I got an Epson V750 and Nikon SuperCoolscan 8000.

I know the Coolscan 9000 has a slightly upgraded version of Digital ICE that works better with Kodachrome, but it still should not work with B/W film. I dont think this can by changed by an upgrade due to the nature of how Digital ICE works (IR)

That being said, I scanned Kodachrome with Digital ICE on my Coolscan 8000 and didn't see any weird problems or artifacts. See these scans of the Apollo 8 parade on Kodachrome here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1X3TQxCx1tps1nvkJdbuDsMR5yAaTcuLx

Fabulous images! I'm guessing that's secret service guys in the hats around the open topped car?
I don't know, it looks like most people wore a hat back then.

For these kind of slides (Plus, its a huge archive of +250 slides taken by Bill) I would use my Epson V750, as it can scan a lot more at once and the resolution (Optically I would say 2100 DPI) is sufficient for the parade and enough for the shots of the TV. But as far as I know, Vuescan doesn't have the programming to detect a slide tray to automatically crop each slide. So I would have to manually select a slide, scan it, and select the next one.

Why not use Nikon Scan, which has exactly this feature? well, it doesn't allow me to control the crop. I have noticed it cuts off parts of the slide. This is completely unacceptable.

So I got to use my Nikon 8000, and then I might as wel scan at 4000 DPI while I am at it.
