I waited until August 25 to place my order for an F6 with B&H, hoping to secure one of the four units they've received roughly twice each year for quite a few years. Given this thread, I was waiting for a B&H email message advising my order had been cancelled. I was uncharacteristically optimistic, thinking there was a possibility an F6 from the last batch Nikon ships to dealers with open orders that were placed before the discontinuation would become available.

Within the last hour B&H wrote saying my F6 was shipped! Now thse Sigma Art lenses (35mm and 50mm) from my D810 kit will be put to good use with ACROS II on an F6 too.

Congratulations! You are a lucky man with a great camera.

Right on time with ordering. Congratulations

Nice! A very rare treat unboxing a brand new 35mm camera in 2020 especially one so tricked out. They look absolute stunners. New sigma on that badboy sounds brutal.

How do people find the crazy manual focus digital lenses on film cameras? I only have the humble film era 28mm shift lens for my nikon.

Yesterday B&H indicated "More on the Way" and today it indicates "Backordered."

So maybe not discontinued? How else can it be back ordered.
Just because it is discontinued at the manufacturer doesn't meant there isn't stock in a distributors warehouse. It all depends on how the supply chain is set up.

Couldn't an APUG menber who speaks Japanese get in touch with Nikon Japan directly by email? That'd be of great help to put us out of our misery

See post 169. English works quite well.

What is the purpose of knowing if it is discontinued or not. If you wait for the final word from Nikon you are too late because prices are going up.

I’m a little confused by this. I’ve been on everyone’s waiting list including B&H, Nikon USA, Nikon Canada etc. and have not been able to get an F6. B&H has been sending me notes for at least 6 months (“...remains unavailable...”).

Although the F6 is still current on Nikon USA’s website (albeit always out of stock), in early October it was wiped from Nikon Canada and Nikon UK (I spoke with Grays at the time and they were apparently advised by Nikon UK that the F6 was done).

I’ve sent multiple emails to B&H, Adorama etc etc and haven’t had any luck getting one. I don’t understand what’s going on here. Nikon Global still lists it in their product lineup. Conflicting stories.
The f6 is DISCONTINUED. End of the story.
The sooner this will be accepted, the better it will be.

Thanks for pointing that out. Please can you show me where Nikon Japan said that.

Hi MIchael. I wasn't on a waiting list. B&H kept flipping the F6 from "Add to Cart" to "Notify When Available." August 25 was one of those days when it was available to place in my cart. After confirming with Henry Posner that in such backorder situations they would place a hold on, but not charge, my credit card, I actually placed an order. An order confirmation email was received within seconds, showing status as "More on the Way" and "Delivery Estimate Pending." Note that Henry's inquiry reply said they do charge credit cards right away when someone outside the U.S. places an order for a backordered item.

In the past, I noted that B&H continued to show Nikon's D810 "backordered" for many months after Nikon in all markets officially listed that camera as discontinued. Just for my information, I entered a "Notify When Available" request, and got "we haven't forgotten you" email messages about it every two weeks thereafter. It was a long, long time, but eventually B&H received four more D810 units. They sold out almost immediately. Only then did B&H change its D810 page to "discontinued." Therefore, if you really want an F6 and are willing to lay out the cost in advance, I'd suggest watching B&H's F6 page continuously. If and when it permits adding one to your cart, place an order immediately. In the worst case, you'll get a complete refund should Nikon never deliver any more units to B&H.

On the page that was linked up-thread. But here it is, with the "old product" tag that was added within last few days highlighted.

Who is the authorized importer of Nikon Equipment into the USA ?

Nikon Incorporated USA is the sole authorized importer of Nikon Corporation of Japan for photographic devices.

Nikon Inc. USA cannot provide service, support or downloads for products that have not been imported by Nikon Inc. USA.

What does owning a "Gray Market" Nikon product mean to you?

Nikon Inc. USA cannot provide any technical support or warranty service on Gray Market items.

What's the relevance of Nikon USA's policy to supply of a new F6?

If someone wants a new camera, most likely they want one that benefits from a warranty that will be supported by the local distributor.
The real question ought to be: "What's the relevance of Nikon USA's policy to a Canadian purchaser?"

It is pretty clear the world will have never been the same without Nikon F6 as some are apparently holding onto their dear lives hoping for proof of fake news.

I keep checking B&H and today they indicate "more on the way." If they had the new one I'd have ordered it, but I wound up ordering a used OPEN BOX f6, with no warranty. It was half the price of a new one and I thought this was reasonable, so if it breaks, I'll get another used one. I wanted to order now that I got the bad news, in case the used market climbs in price.

BTW this will be my sixth Nikon, all purchased used and all still working. I can't say that of any other brand I have ever purchased used.

On the bright side I did just acquire a brand new, never opened F4.

The F4 is my favorite Nikon electronic film camera. It has all the bell and whistles — most of which I will never use, like all those metering modes, the aperture/shutter priority, etc. —, a fast motor, 1/250 flash sync, the right weight for me (i like heavy cameras)... I have one with a tired motor that sometimes won't wind, requiring a couple of tries with the lens cap on when it happens. I guess it's the price I pay for a camera that costed $0.

Maybe Nikon is just trying to drive up demand. Anyway, I was out today shooting my F6. What a pleasure.

I'm beginning to doubt of the usefulness of this forum...

It pays to ask the manufacturer directly. I've sent an email directly to Nikon Japan last Friday, Today I got a reply saying the F6 has been discontinued.

Could you post that email here?
