Hello everyone, I need a little help. I recently bought a Nikon AS-1 to explore flash photography on film. However, when I attach the Godox V1, the flash freezes, I cannot change any settings or fire the flash at all. Another flash I have is the IT30 Pro, it can still change settings and fire on its own, but not when the camera shutter is fired. Also I did test those flashes with my friend praktica ltl2 and my other canonet ql17 with their on camera flash mount, and both worked perfectly.

Moreover, I have tried cleaning the contact points with isopropyl alcohol, but nothing worked. No flash was fired, and the V1 still froze when I plugged it in. Would it AS-1 issues, or the contact/wire inside the camera is damaged?

I have set ss to the red line or below 125. Thank you for any responses and help.

On some other old flash shoes where there is a lot of metal on the bottom of the shoe, the shoe shorts out the extra contacts on "smart" or brand-specific flash units or triggers. Try applying a bit of tape around the bottom of the shoe except for the edges and the centre contact to insulate the flash unit's other contacts from the metal.

Thank you for the response, its quite tight so what tape should i use to withstand the force, black electrical tape?

Try an old school generic flash unit. Doesn't need to be fancy. My modern Nikon flash will work with an as-1. Make sure you have the camera set to the correct shutter speed. X sync should work 1 sec to 1/80. Not sure what happens faster, except you'll get banding

Yes the AS-1 has a lot of metal which could short the extra pins. Tape would work if you can't put electrical tape then scotch tape is OK.

Old auto-flashes can be had for a song. Vivitar 283 comes to mind or a Metz 32CT3 if someone reading this is in Europe.
