Ok Nikon.co.jp has announced they are developing th D6. No details whatsoever.
Also another zoom, yawn.
I watched an astronaut talking on NASA TV tonight talking about how she was always in the darkroom in school. Then she was zero G swinging around a D5 with some Mongo huge telephoto. We didn't have any future astronaut girls in my 9th grade photo class. Just us dorks.

* The above two images may differ from the appearance of the products on the market.

Nikon Co., Ltd. (President: Yukichi Madate, Minato-ku, Tokyo) is a professional model digital single-lens reflex camera "Nikon D6" and a telephoto zoom lens compatible with Nikon FX format "AF-S NIKKOR 120-300mm f / 2.8E FL ED SR VR is being developed.

Nikon launched the Nikon D1 digital SLR camera in 1999, and this year marks the 20th anniversary of the launch of the D-digit series. The flagship model D single digit series has evolved by bringing together the top-level technologies and know-how that Nikon has cultivated over many years in the development of cameras to meet the needs of professional photographers who demand the best performance even under severe conditions. I have continued. “D6” is being developed as the latest model.
In addition, the Nikon F Mount used in the D series celebrated its 60th anniversary this year. The newly developed "AF-S NIKKOR 120-300mm f / 2.8E FL ED SR VR" provides even more powerful support for professional photographer sports photography.

Nikon is pursuing the possibilities of video expression and will lead the video culture with both a DSLR camera system and a mirrorless camera system and an extensive lens lineup.

  • *Details such as the release date and price of this product are yet to be determined.

Yep. You don't have to have the latest and greatest computer. You may need to add more RAM to your computer, but once you're up in the 8-16 GB range of ram, a lot of stuff speeds way up. Any CPU made in the last 5-10 years is totally serviceable as long as you have enough ram and a reasonably fast hard drive. Some will be faster than others, but for still images, your biggest bottlenecks are RAM and hard drive speed. Editing video is where you need to have a bonkers machine.

Also, keep in mind a lot of complaints about speed in LR come from people who don't necessarily use LR in a way that's conducive to having a snappy experience. I remember some guy a while back (not here on Photrio) complaining that LR was super slow, and after talking to him for a while, it became clear what the problem was: He was shooting a 50MP camera, and in one sitting was pulling in several thousand photos at a time and telling LR to generate 1:1 previews. Sorry guy, you're pulling in a ridiculously large volume of very high resolution images and telling LR to do it's single most expensive operation for each image and you're not happy it's taking longer than 2-3 minutes? What did you expect?

1:1 previews are meant to be generated and used once you've imported and done your initial selects and deleted all the reject photos so that you can then do your editing. They're not meant to be generated at import time. The same goes for the type of previews being generated. You'd be amazed at how many photographers always generate the highest resolution highest quality previews possible all the time, never update the preview inside the file, and never write any updated metadata to the file and then wonder why their system is crawling when they're trying to use LR. It's being made to do the maximum amount of work all. the. time. Many times, totally unnecessarily. There's a reason why LR lets you set the preview size and quality level. That has a direct impact on your usability experience.

1:1 all the time.

I got the space and power. LR crawls when you try to use it like photoshop. Do basic light touchups, no major cleaning or spotting. Save that for PS.

Someone has suggested the D6 may be DSLR and mirrorless, via an electronically linked accessory viewfinder on the hot shoe. Guesswork probably, but an interesting idea.

I have a D5, if the D6 has better auto focus and 4 years newer computers it must be amazing. Canon recently announced they are focusing all new lens development on mirrorless. I also have a D850, great camera, but I really love the D5, after a year or so I will be looking at a D6. Same price as the D5 was until the recent discounts, 6500 usd.

If I go back to shooting weddings in my post-corporate partially-retired life I'd pick up a D6 in a heartbeat. I began shooting weddings with a pair of RB67s eons ago (talk about a whole day workout!) and currently shoot a D850. While the D850 is no slouch, I can't imagine how much better it would be comfortably shooting at ISO 12800 with a fast 24-70 2.8 VR lens - the ability to nail focus, exposure, and motion in every shot in the darkest venues (such as candle-lit church ceremonies, candids where you don't want to use flash, and more) without flash. Overkill, not a chance - not when the average package is $2500-$5000 each and your business and your clients depend on it. I expect the D6 gains a stop where the D5 is pretty safe at ISO 6400, the D6 will likely match it at 12,800. I'm not comfortable shooting my D850 at more than 1600 (3200 in a pinch), so 6400 with a D6 would likely be more akin to 1600 on the D850 and 12,800 would likely be more like shooting 3,200 - then you pick up a few additional stops with the VR lens and that's something like a 5+ stop advantage over the next best DSLR - which would be insane combined with absolute focus precision like nothing else before.

So no one is talking about the D6? Maybe I missed something. I figured some of ya'all would be discussing. Not sure how many cameras are in the pipeline? I would be interested in anyone's hands on experience with this camera.

what is there to discuss? Last I checked, Nikon has postponed it. Before that, it was barely an incremental update over the D5.

It's in the US. NPS members with pre orders first. Supposed to have dramatically improved auto focus, 4 year newer computers, Expeed 6 image processor, eye detection. I've got one on order and I have a D5. This will be the first brand new Nikon I've bought since I got a F3. The sensor is same as D5, 20 MP is plenty. From what I've seen it's a battleship.

I got my D6 yesterday. I have a D5, I thought it can't be that much better than the D5. It is. For me it's all about the upgrades to the computers and the auto focus. The CFExpress cards download to my 6 month old HP computer as fast as chugging a glass of beer.

I am still trying to figure everything out. My wildlife are my 3 Cats. I think it's almost capable of animal eye detection. It's not, but it feels like it. I have one, new, fancy lens, 70 to 200, it's got the E electronic aperture, that's the only lens that can keep up with the 14 fps. But it works great with my older afd lenses.

This is the 3rd NEW Nikon I've bought. A F2S in 1973, a F3 sometime in the 80's and now this. The world as it is, I'm not wasting time.
