Hi all,

I’m new to digital and saw that if the lens is not attached I can’t take photos with Nikon D3200. I’m wondering if I can take photos if I’d like to use a m42 Pentax lens with a Nikon F mount adapter? Will it sense the adapter or does it need electrical connection to be able to take photos?
I’ve to add that this m42 Pentax lens will be attached to a m42 bellows unit and the other end would attach to the Nikon dslr.
The reason for this is that I want to take shots of film negatives to have them in a digital format. I’ve read that I can’t focus to infinity but in this case it doesn’t matter.
Thanks!

You can set it to shoot "without" a lens. Should be in custom functions.

You need an adapter with a balance lens to correct for the difference in film to flange distance. I had one that I used with my Nikon film cameras, acted as teleconverter, vinented my 28 and 24mm primes, and degraded the images some.

Many thanks for your response! Since then I found out the solution which is to switch to manual mode and then take test shots. I don’t have the camera I’m just about to invest bit I wanted to make sure about the possibilities.
