I had excellent experience with folding rubber lenshood on Nikkor 50’s for more than 40 years. Recently converted to metal screw on hoods. Same good experience but makes the camera a couple of inches deeper.

No big deal. No experience with generic but don’t know why they wouldn’t work as well as a Nikon unless it’s a real piece of junk. Lately, though, the knock-offs have been impressively high quality.

I’ve also used the Nikon snap-on hoods. They sometpop off when bumped, but less so when snapped on and gently tighter by screwing it on until it stops. Any tighter than that and it will pop off.

I've been using a generic hood that looks identical to the one you linked to for my 50mm f/1.8 Nikkor lens for around 25 years, really good at keeping rain drops off as it is nice and deep. Great in crowded areas as the hood doesn't fold if bumped like my collapsing rubber hood. Even works with a filter fitted, doesn't vignette.

It should be screw on. I don't think they made a slip on hood.

I always used the HN-7 with Nikkor 50's f/2, 1.8 and 1.4. With the 50mm f/1.2 I use a step up ring to 62mm then an HN-23 and that hood matches the exterior dimensions of the fatter 50/1.2. Used with one B+H ND filter and no vinette.
