Night Vision Goggles

I'm interested in using infrared goggles to see what I'm doing while using hangers for processing sheet film.

Here's why...

In order to avoid using larger tanks (save on chemistry) I bought containers that take comfortably six hangers. However, if they fan at all upon agitation(removal from tank), they can be a pain to get back into the container resulting in a non uniform agitation sequence.

So, do they work? Can you see enough to manage this? If so, any brand/model recommendations?

they work extremely well. I have a monocular, it's a gen1 ATN. Just make sure your IR light is outside of the films range and I fashioned a hood for mine that covers my head to prevent light fall off from the eye piece. I have several threads here about my dev by IR inspection if you search. It's an incredibly handy tool. I actually used it the other day to save a roll of 35mm that almost got horribly jammed on my plastic reel.

I have the Viper thing, it works, but as I have said before they are totally unnecessary. Learn to hold the hangers with both hands level and the hangers in between. Just like you were clapping, six holders can easily be managed by your thumbs on both hands. Takes a bit of practice, but try it with empty hangers in the daylite.

I got mine from ebay but can't recall the price, it was a while ago..

Yup that's the one. I have had no fogging whatsoever using the lightsource on the scope, and a new IR 140LED light bank -film exposed to the IR light for over 15 minutes..

remember DO NOT look directly into the IR lights, eventhough it appears nothing is on it apparently can still blind you..

That's the same bank as what you've got underneath your lightbox, isn't it? I'm going to finally spring for one so I can set up a system similar to yours.

Hi Chris, it is, and I will probably add 1 more bank which will bring the total light source to an 8x10 size and add even more brightness..
