Silvergrain posted on IG a few days ago showing off some of the CAD design:

The problem will be cost. To pay for the tooling going to need volume. Good thing is no shutter, no rangefinder, that helps. Really hope this works out!

In high school I took drafting classes and worked summers as a draftsman while getting my degree. I have watched from the distance the progress of CAD and I enjoyed the video.

I guess most metal parts will be CNC machined, so no tooling needed.

The main moving part is the clockwork to turn the lens smoothly, accurately and consistently.

It's probably a good thing that they are restricting their Widelux revival to a 35mm version. The recoil on using the top speed (1/250) on the medium format version (Widelux1500) is similar to firing a .45 pistol, so you can imagine the wear and tear on the rotating lens barrel mechanism and why they are hard to keep working correctly.

Yeah, what am I thinking. Same way Leica makes camera bodies today. No die cast, minimal stamping. Crazy. We will see how this all turns out. I have an old Fujica G617, that's hard to beat, still, not really the same thing, the rotating lens is very cool. And of course now appears that 15% tariff on EU to US goods, you know to help support US panoramic camera manufacturers 🤣 😳

Just saw this. Pretty cool. Jeff Bridges is everywhere right now, amazing actor! I don't know what my wife will tolerate in terms of cash. We shall see!

You are lucky that you only have to run it by your wife. I'd have to convince a few other people to start paying me at least 3x my current salary to be able to even start thinking about WideluxX...

Yeah I suspect these will be north of 5K. Then there's the we need to raise money for the "new ballroom tax" 😁

Apparently they took the post down. Maybe because it said that newsletter subscribers would have already seen that news, but the newsletter didn’t actually go out until this morning.

Anyway, they said that two prototype cameras are in the hands of Jeff and Susan Bridges in the US and they’re moving along quickly now.

I got an email about the WideLux X.

Something special just arrived in California…

Moments like this remind us why we started this project in the first place: seeing WideluxX in the hands of photographers, doing what it was built to do. We’re moving forward quickly now, and we’re excited to share more of the journey with you soon.

The video is great fun with Jeff and Susan Bridges opening the two prototypes, oohing and ahhing over them, then shooting a few photos. They show a couple of the photos they took, too. Well worth watching.

I'm not sure why but I just received the video this morning. I thought I was in the loop when I signed up.
Not sure if there's anything new here but I just received it.
