Two HUNDRED..?!!
And here I thought a half dozen was a commitment!
why would anyone bother buying from a reseller doing FBA on amazon when it's easily available cheaper from amazon directly, or B&H?

Exactly. I’ll probably break off a couple bricks and put them into my freezer, but the reality of selling film on Amazon means that if somebody buys film and then returns it, if the package is damaged in any way, Amazon won’t put it back in your inventory and sell it again. Instead they return it to the reseller, so at the moment I actually have way more film than I’ll realistically shoot any time soon that is returned film that I can’t sell. Since I can’t sell it, I put it in my freezer and shoot it. At the volumes I move, it comes in faster than I can shoot it.Besides...what is wrong with buying two hundred rolls of film to use for yourself? I go through twice that much 35mm film in a year. Not to mention that bulk buying can result in good discounts if you choose your sellers wisely.
Also, it isn’t really cheaper to get it elsewhere once you factor in the cost of 2 day shipping. For example, the current price of 100TMX in 135-24 is $9.15 including 2 day shipping on Amazon. If you were to buy the single roll from BH it’s currently $4.49. Seems cheaper, but shipping starts at $3.50 and it ain’t getting there in 2 days or less for that price. If you’re OK with slower shipping, then by all means buy it elsewhere, but it’s marginally less expensive and significantly slower shipping.

B & H gives free 2 day shipping with a $50 order. I can't remember when, or even if, I have ever paid for shipping.
That’s great! If you buy at least that much on every purchase, then good for you. I sell more single rolls than any other volume by a factor of at least 5 to 1, depending on the emulsion. A significant number of people that buy film buy 1 roll at a time and want it right now. If they didn’t, I’d have to change my business model.

Very odd. The way to have it quickest is to avoid shipping when you need it. That means have some inventory. It does not take a lot of film to hit a $50 threshold. But if people can't figure that out, oh well.
I stopped trying to figure out people a long time ago. The way I see it, there’s no such thing as a bad film sale, even if it’s at a price higher than what other people think it should be for. Being a reseller, I know what the manufacturers are charging for wholesale, and quite frankly, the big places like BH aren’t doing themselves or anybody else any favors because they’re selling what film they do carry with almost no profit or just about at their cost. That is not a sustainable business model. The way I run my business is to fill a need while making a fair sustainable profit so that I stay in business. People buy film on Amazon and pay my prices, and they buy a lot of it.
That being said, Getting back to P3200, I’ll put my inventory into FBA, and at the 2 week mark, make a 30 day sales cycle projection, then stock that much. I expect it’ll be relatively brisk sales and those 200 rolls won’t make it to the 2 week mark. I could be wrong, but I’ve sold enough film now that I think I know what it’s going to do.
I dont know how companies make money giving away shipping. B & H shipped to me, for free, a 44 inch TV once in 2 days. I can't imagine how much that cost.
They don’t. They use a lot of loss leaders, make a killing on accessories, and hope they don’t have to provide customer service, because they didn’t factor any of that cost into what you paid. Their entire model is to sell maximum volume at almost no profit. It’s a terrible way to do business unless you’re super huge, then as long as more money is coming in than going out, you’re fine.
B & H has been around since 1973. Clearly they are very sustainable in what they do. I dont think you know how much they pay for the film they sell. It's not the same price you do.
Yes I have. I used to buy a lot of film from them. I’ve gotten most of my current equipment from them. I doubt that 1 guy does the customer services for 100 of thousands of people how buy from BH.Have you ever dealt with B & H? Their customer service is AMAZING. Henry Posner has to be THE best customer service rep on the planet. Let me tell you a short story. I bought a SIgma DP2M (ick, digital i know) from B & H. I was living in China so I shipped it to my US work location and had someone from my company bring it to me when they traveled to Shanghai. This took weeks after the sale. When I got the camera, I noticed that it had a fair number of exposures on it. Not a huge amount, but more than I would have guessed. I emailed Henry and asked him about this. I got an email from Henry within an hour saying send it back, we'll get you a different camera. I explained to him that this would not be so easy, as I'm 9,000 miles away. Plus, the camera is fine, I just wondered about the exposure count. I got a second email from B & H, issuing me $200 back on my credit card. Absolutely amazing. I didn't ask for anything from him. I just wanted information about my new camera.
I've had many other positive customer service experiences throughout the 28 years i've shopped there. Never one bad experience. Except them being out of stock with DD-X.
Maybe, maybe not. They don’t actually keep that much inventory except for the super popular stuff. It’s pretty easy to find out how much film they have on hand of any emulsion by trying to buy more than what they have in stock. The shopping cart will stop you. Ratchet the number down until it lets you. That’s how much they have in stock. You’ll find out real quick that most emulsions at any given time they have 1 or 2 cases on hand and that’s it. You’re not going to get a much better price than me by buying a couple hundred rolls at a time. I do that all the time. BH doesn’t buy 10,000 rolls at a time of anything except maybe 400TX or HP5. Most other things, it’s 1-2 cases at a time.
I don’t think people realize just how small the film market actually is.
I sell on amazon too. Not film but my wildeflowers health drinks. I don't like the business model. Amazon does not pay their employees well. It has zero communication with its reselellers except to tell you that they are about to destroy your material. It's basically a race to the bottom where Amazon makes all the money. I would much rather support b÷h or freestyle because they are a business with real people. There's no debate that the Wal-Mart's of the world have done nothing to increase the standard of living for people. It has created a few billionaires though. All the trends are showing up tick in film sales. ..support film and support the stores so that the next generation will have a human to ask questions and find out about film. And yes b+h ships free after $50 sale...thats a whopping 5 rolls of p3200...who orders one roll anyway..??
